Pitch with far-reaching views

  • Small adults-only tourer site set on North Yorkshire’s Centenary Way
  • Castle Howard 20 minutes’ drive and historic York 25 minutes
  • Fully-serviced hardstanding pitches; pub half an hour’s walk
Listen up, all you walkers out there – the small tourer park at Lilling Green Farm sits directly upon North Yorkshire’s Centenary Way hiking route on its way across the Howardian Hills and Yorkshire Wolds. This peaceful (and adults-only, so it will stay that way) spot is on a friendly, family-run smallholding with sheep, chickens and horses; the neatly maintained pitches all have electric hook-ups, water and views over farmland. The dog-friendly site is 10 minutes’ drive from Strensall, with bags of amenities including mini-supermarkets, a local butcher, pubs and a café. If you don’t feel like driving, you can walk down to the historic village of Sheriff Hutton in half an hour to the post office, shop or pub. As well as the Centenary Way, there are footpaths offering walks for all levels of activity and ability through beautiful North Yorkshire countryside directly from the pitches, and you might also like to have a potter around pretty Sheriff Hutton’s 600-year-old castle and lovely medieval church. There is plenty for non-walkers to do as well, of course, from visiting east-coast beaches (about an hour’s drive) to exploring the cultural delights of York (20 minutes).

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: This is an excellent and quiet site with just four areas for campers/caravans. The nights were still and silent and the morning view across the fields with sheep in them was a lovely thing to wake up to each morning. Great walking could be had in every direction and the whole area seems to be off the well trodden tourist trail. Good pubs were close to hand for nice meals and a pint. Cannot recommend Lilling Green Farm Campsite enough. Excellent.

From the manager: Hello,

Thank you so much for your lovely comments, we very much appreciate them.
We appreciate the single track highways to our campsite, there are a few passing places along the way and we have three single track access routes coming into the campsite so hopefully this shouldn't pose too much of an issue.
Many thanks

Liked: Great rural location. We was met by Phil the owner who told us of all the walks to the surrounding villages Strensall and Sherrif Hutton.
We walked both of them . Hutton had a Post Office and a country pub.
Strensall has two pubs , Tesco and a Boots.
We were the only ones on site so very quiet and peaceful weekend.
Phil came to see us Sunday morning which was a nice touch.
Lovely site we will definitely go back.

Local attractions

Keen hikers can set off along the Centenary Way straight from their pitch; this route combines riverside trails and forest tracks and links up with the Cleveland Way. Alternatively, you can head to Dalby Forest (40 minutes’ drive) to explore forest footpaths or take up the treetop rope challenge at Go Ape (45 minutes). Of course, the ancient city of York (25 minutes) looms large on local sightseeing schedules; amble around the (largely) Roman walls for city views, see how the Vikings conquered the region at JORVIK, and catch a free guided tour of the ornate, Gothic-era minster. Pick up souvenir fridge magnets and locally crafted chocolates along The Shambles, or acquaint yourself with Victorian York at the Castle Museum. Elegant Castle Howard (20 minutes) and its spectacularly laid-out parkland – scattered with follies – makes an excellent day out, or you can wander the aromatic wildflower gardens at Yorkshire Lavender (15 minutes). Fancy a day at the beach? The coastal towns of Filey, Scarborough, Whitby and Bridlington are all roughly an hour’s drive away.
