  • Pop-up eco campsite in North Yorkshire with views of the coast
  • Three and a half miles from Whitby; Robin Hood's Bay 15 minutes' drive
  • Milk, eggs, juice and home-baked goods available to buy on site
Woodside Camping is a secluded spot on the edge of a small family-run beef and sheep farm in North Yorkshire. Sitting within the North York Moors National Park, this scenic site has views of the sea and of Whitby Abbey, while the town centre and the beach can easily be reached three and a half miles down the road. The site is shielded from the country lane by mature hedges that are ecologically managed to the benefit of the environment. Sit back, don't make too much noise and you may be lucky enough to spot a buzzard or barn owl soaring overhead. Milk, eggs, juice and home-baked goods available to buy on site, which also has amenities like simple portable toilets. There's a lot on offer just down the road in the historic port of Whitby, where you can follow in the footsteps of Captain Cook, explore the grave of Dracula in St Mary's Churchyard or relax and sun yourself on the beach. The area is also home to some of the UK's finest fish and chips, which you can sample either in Whitby or in any one of the several towns dotted along the coast. Paths and walkways crisscross the whole area and can be followed down to the sea or deep into the moors. There are a number of routes which are directly adjacent to the campsite, or you could walk down to the beach via Mulgrave Woods, spotting the ruins of old Mulgrave Castle along the way. Aislaby, the closest village, is a 20-minute walk away over heathland and has a lovely pub for evening meals, plus a regular bus service into town to save you the hassle of parking in the centre.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch (maximum 6 metres)

Liked: Excellent campsite, basic, but little things that make a difference had been thought of, such as an outside basin with tap and soap next to the very clean portaloos, an outdoor kitchen area under a gazebo, and a covered area with tables and chairs. None of this detracted from the simple camping experience that this site offered.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch (maximum 6 metres)

Liked: If you like quiet rural campsites with a minimum of facilities then this is the place for you. lovely setting - about an hours walk to Sandsend along very quiet roads, on wed sat and sunday you can go through the woods of the local estate for free down to Sandsend. It really is a stunning walk. Nice roomy pitches in the field. nice people run it and work hard to make it a lovely place to be

Disliked: it's on a bit of a slope. there is a tiny bit of road noise
