  • Serviced touring pitches at a North York Moors working family farm
  • A 25-minute drive to Whitby; Rievaulx Abbey 40 minutes
  • Within walking distance of pubs, shop, bakery and railway station
There are lots of scenic spots in the North York Moors National Park – but how about staying in a location described by one former guest as ‘so beautiful, I almost cried’? And that's just one of the many enthusiastic reviews for Congrave Farm Holidays… The views here are indeed fabulous, looking out over Danby Dale and with gorgeous greenery all around. But the scenery isn't the only selling point at this site – previous guests at this working family farm have also heaped praise on friendly and helpful owner Becky and noted how clean and tidy the small site is. The location helps a lot, too – because, despite those fabulous rural views giving the place a ‘middle-of-nowhere' vibe, it's only about a 15-minute walk from the village of Danby, home to a bakery, a shop and a railway station as well as two pubs. Danby Lodge National Park Centre is about a half-hour walk away for an adventure playground, a café and walking trails. Being within the national park means this is a great location for all sorts of outdoor activities, including hiking, cycling and wild swimming. It's also an International Dark Sky Reserve so you can expect glittering displays on clear nights. And there's also the option of a day at the coast, as it's a 15-minute drive to Runswick Bay or 25 minutes to Whitby. Back at base, it’s a simple setup that's geared to tourers so there are no toilets or showers for guest use. Spacious pitches each have a water and electric hookup, and shared facilities include a chemical disposal point and a rubbish/recycling area.

What customers say

A peaceful, well-maintained site with spacious, serviced pitches offering stunning valley views. Guests consistently praise the friendly and welcoming owner, Becky, and the site's quiet atmosphere. Amenities include EHU, water, and grey waste disposal on each pitch, with picnic tables provided. It's conveniently located within walking distance of pubs and a train station, with excellent local walks. Some guests noted a lack of Wi-Fi and phone signal, though this was appreciated by others. Overall, highly recommended for a relaxing stay.

Fully-serviced grass and earth touring pitch

Liked Beautiful well maintained site, I’m on Vodafone so no signal which I loved as no distractions from the beautiful views. Becky friendly and a pleasure to meet. Travelling with 2 cocker spaniels so the site being small & well fenced a definite bonus.
Would definitely visit again.

Fully-serviced grass and earth touring pitch

Liked Well spaced pitches with water and electric on each (grey waste if you have external tank/container too). This is a very peaceful site in beautiful countryside, with walking trails and pubs close by. We stayed for 3 nights and didn’t need to move the van. There’s a health shop and bakery nearby, and a co-op roughly a mile away in the neighbouring village.
Becky, proprietor, sent a text with pitching information and came to introduce herself after we arrived and to check there was nothing else we needed.

No Wi-Fi, and unable to comment about child suitability.
We’re hoping to be back and explore more!

Local attractions

Keen to hike? You’ve come to the right area, as there are lots of trails to choose from – with one of the closest being Danby Beacon (five minutes' drive), a historical spot that also happens to have sweeping views across the moors. Captain Cook's Monument (20 minutes) is another top choice, with fine views from the top of Easby Moor; if you're up for a bit of scrambling, The Wainstones (35 minutes) may be the place for you. If that all sounds a little exhausting, how about a ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway? There are several stations to choose from, but Goathland (half an hour) is particularly popular because of its starring role in the Harry Potter films. Alternatively, take a wander around the ruins of Rievaulx Abbey (40 minutes). Over at the coast, favourite spots include Whitby (25 minutes), for its Gothic abbey, 199 Steps and Captain Cook Museum, and the cute fishing village of Robin Hood's Bay (35 minutes).
