Grass and earth touring pitch

  • Small site with touring pitches on a working family farm
  • In the village of Danby in the North York Moors National Park
  • Within walking distance of pubs, shops, cafés and a bakery
Congrave Farm Holidays is a seriously handy spot for exploring the North York Moors National Park. Its touring pitches are on a working family farm in the village of Danby in North Yorkshire, which is an excellent base for hiking the moors, visiting the coast and getting stuck into all manners of outdoor activities such as trail running, cycling and mountain biking. First of all, the small site is within walking distance of pubs, a bakery, shops, a kids’ playground and cafés. Secondly, it’s just a 15-minute walk from Danby station, which is on the Esk Valley Railway running from Whitby to Middlesbrough and stops at lots of stunning local spots including Grosmont (a 25-minute train) which has access to a steam railway to Pickering and Goathland. If you’re touring as a family, the site is also handily within half an hour’s walk of the Danby Lodge National Park Centre, which has an adventure playground, café and walking trails. This spot is an official Dark Sky Discovery Site; maybe you’ll spot the Milky Way if you get lucky. When you’re ready to be by the sea, check out your options, which include Runswick Bay (15 minutes), Sandsend (20 minutes) and Saltburn-by-the-Sea (25 minutes). You could sit down on a stunning beachfront or pack a picnic to sit on a moortop and take in the views.

Fully-serviced grass and earth touring pitch

Liked: Great location. Walking distance to two pubs and train station plus hiking trails. Site is well spaced, has cracking views and is fully serviced. All facilities were clean and the picnic bench for each pitch is a great touch. Hosts were very friendly and welcoming and had some great recommendations.

Disliked: Lack of phone signal was mildly inconvenient when wanting to check train times.

Liked: The view and the peace and quiet were the highlights. In addition, the picnic table and the cows for company made it even better. Drainage, water and chemical disposal a bonus for such a small site.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Liked: The site is very well maintained, small but beautiful. The views are fantastic, really had a lovely peaceful time here. The owners of the farm were so welcoming and pleasant. Our children also enjoyed playing with theirs, we were made to feel very comfortable there. The kids were so excited the cows were just over the fence, we really had such an enjoyable weekend.
