Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: The location of the campsite was lovely and well situated for the Cleveland Way. We walked in, stopping for coffee and cake at the Glider Club cafe on route. The toilets were very clean and the site has running water. We had a great time and would highly recommend staying here.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: Great location. Lovely and quiet but also near to Kilburn with a great pub. The owner made us feel welcome, getting in touch before our stay and then coming and checking everything was ok on an evening. The toilets were really clean

Disliked: struggled to get a much of a mobile signal at the site, but that's not the owner's fault

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your comments. Mobile signal can be a bit hit and miss but we hope this does not deter you from returning

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: A well-kept site by friendly, helpful owners. Peaceful, bucolic location. Clean toilet facilities. Respectful other users who were quiet after 9.30/10pm. Short, pleasant walk to Kilburn village which has a lovely pub. Nice woodland walk up to the Kilburn white horse with further scenic walks beyond.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Lovely campsite positioned next to hill of friendly cows. Great location for walks and mountain biking near Kilburn Woods and the White Horse. Cheap and cheerful. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Disliked: Facilities were simple reflective of cheap price - could be nice to have at least a simple area with sink for washing up etc. and one shower. Owners seemed relaxed although it could’ve been nice if they introduced themselves to guests (they came up to us but we didn’t know they were the owners).

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. There is no shower because the site does not have electric.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: Lovely site with very easy access. The owner, Carol, arrived to welcome us. We were the only ones there when we arrived. The site is in a perfect location - a quiet valley below Kilburn White Horse within easy reach of Helmesley and Thirsk. The facilities are perfect. - Excellent toilets and drinking water tap. Yes, it's true there are no showers, but you can stick your head under the tap! The weather was great too. My son and I throroughly enjoyed our stay. We'll definitely be back.

Disliked: There was nothing to dislike.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your great review. It looks like you both had a great time and the breakfast looks delicious.

Local attractions

The North York Moors National Park is packed with great walking and bike trails to give you a taste of the scenery. Some of the top spots nearby include the ruins of Byland Abbey (five minutes’ drive) and Rievaulx Abbey (20 minutes), both particularly atmospheric early in the morning or at sunset. If a trip to the countryside isn't complete without seeing some animals, take the kids to Monk Park Farm (10 minutes), where they can bottle-feed lambs (in season), meet the goats and ride a miniature train. Alpaca walks are on the cards at Beacon Alpacas (10 minutes), or you could saddle up for a day on horseback at Bilsdale Riding Centre (25 minutes). For a different kind of animal encounter, head to Thirsk Birds of Prey Centre (25 minutes), stopping by in the town to explore The World of James Herriot museum too. Another town worth visiting is Helmsley (20 minutes), which has a castle and a walled garden.
