Whether you’re off to the North York Moors National Park to walk the Cleveland Way, mountain bike around Sutton Bank or tread carefully around abbeys and museums, Butter Hill Caravan Park is well situated to get going, as it's on the edge of the national park – with the 109-mile Cleveland Way trail around 10 minutes’ drive away (and it has quite the reputation for sublime scenery around the fringes of the moors). Look up and you’ll see a well-known North Yorkshire landscape… this small site is just below the White Horse of Kilburn, a chalk figure cut into the side of the hill. It’s 25 minutes’ walk away from the site for a look up close, and there are also other interesting nooks a short walk away, including the Mouseman furniture maker. On site, there are water points, but for some fancier potions to wet your tastebuds, there are all types of refreshments in the surrounding pubs. The site is on the edge of the village of Kilburn, so the local pub/restaurant is two minutes’ walk away. There’s another good pub in Coxwold, 30 minutes’ walk away or five minutes’ drive. As for shops, Thirsk, 10 minutes’ drive away, is your go-to.

Liked Really beautiful site in a lovely village. The owners have done an amazing job of reclaiming this land - an un farmable stretch of heavy sloping clay - hence the name Butter Hill. They’ve made an astounding job. Six immaculate pitches with EHU, an Elsan and waste water point. They are really friendly too and generous with their local knowledge. You can walk up to the White Horse from here, and it’s a short drive to gorgeous Coxwold. Will definitely return. 🙏☺️

Liked Absolutely beautiful peaceful campsite the views of the White Horse are gorgeous we stayed 1 night - it is a very short walk to the nearest pub and the village of Kilburn and the next day we walked from the campsite to the White Horse itself, it took around 40mins and is definitely worth it!! The views of Gods Own Country North Yorkshire are unbelievable…the owners Carol and her husband are so lovely highly recommended if you just want to get away from life and worth waking up at 3am if a clear sky to see some amazing stars!!

Liked Immaculate well kept site with large pitches. Lovely quiet site. Ideal for a peaceful break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Great view of The White Horse. Would definitlely recommend.

Liked Wonderful small site, very quiet and relaxing. Pitches level. Great base for exploring area. lots of walks and lovely small towns. This is our second visit and we will be back.

Liked Small, quiet rural campsite. Host were very nice and friendly, only 6 pitches and adults only so never going to get busy. If you want a relaxing getaway from everything this is an excellent place.

Liked We absolutely loved pitch 3 and we were so happy to wake up to such beautiful views and all the nature we were lucky enough to be surrounded by. Pauline (owner) met us on arrival and made us feel very welcome and asked us if we needed anything and where to find her if we did. The area has beautiful walks and we took a lovely stroll upto the white horse and we were not disappointed. The site is really quiet and very clean and all the other guest were friendly and respectful of the sites quiet atmosphere.

Liked In a great location for walking or just enjoying the views of the Kilburn Horse. Small site with 5 pitches.

Owners came round to make sure all ok and for us to pay the balance, nice couple to deal with.
