  • Dog-friendly Yorkshire Dales site five minutes’ drive from Skipton
  • Embsay Station 10 minutes’ drive; Harrogate 35 minutes
  • Country shop; pub serving food; play area and year-round family events
Hiking, golfing and a thriving restaurant scene in nearby Skipton (five minutes’ drive across the A59) make Tarn House Caravan Park a pretty sweet spot for a holiday in North Yorkshire. The family-friendly site sits on the southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales, so the walkers and ramblers in your midst should have plenty to be cheerful about, with places like Embsay Crag and Skipton Moor no more than 10 minutes’ drive away. On the site, there is a nifty country shop selling locally produced foodstuffs. The amenities are modern: there's a heated toilet and shower block (with facilities for disabled guests), as well as a launderette. And golfers will likely be happier still, with a driving range within walking distance (10 minutes) and an 18-hole course (where they also run beginners’ lessons) within a five-minute drive. After a day on the putting green, scrambling up the Dales or walking your dog (a welcome guest here) through gorgeous woodland, you can chill out by sinking into a comfortable leather sofa at the elegant on-site pub, which serves delicious pizzas and local ales. Children, meanwhile, might be making new friends on the swings and see-saws in the play area. Tarn House also has a calendar of events, ranging from live music bands and comedy performances to children’s activities.

What customers say

Tarn House Holiday Park offers excellent, spotless facilities, particularly the showers and toilets, and is praised for its friendly, helpful staff. The on-site bar and restaurant receive high marks for food and atmosphere. The park's location is convenient for Skipton, with pleasant walks available. Some guests experienced issues with touring pitch size and proximity, along with limited WiFi coverage and occasional overcrowding in the amenity blocks during peak times.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring caravan pitch

Liked Bar area and toilets and showers. Small hill up to bar area. Arrived and had been called to let us know pitch number, grass and gravel bit close to each other if an awning was used. Staff friendly and site well maintained. Walk into skipton down hill, around 30/40 mins depending on speed
Site has a deal with taxi so taxi back £6 well worth it. Plenty of pubs and market days. Canal pretty to sit by, but the weather was terrible so only had 3 days that we could sit outside.

Disliked Not a dislike, but if site was full 29 pitches there are only 2 showers and 3 toilets in ladies so would maybe be a concern

Local attractions

Head to Embsay Station (10 minutes’ drive) for a ride on the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway, but be sure to get there well before your train is due to depart to make the most of the tiny vintage café, which serves yummy home-made cakes. It’s also worth keeping an eye on the website for events like murder mysteries and driving experiences. At Thornton Hall Farm Country Park (15 minutes), the children can ride ponies, feed lambs or go on a safari drive through the grounds to see the resident deer herd. There is also an indoor soft-play area and quad bikes (for both kids and for adults, should you feel unfairly left out…) Need to wind down further? Take a day trip to Harrogate (35 minutes), where the Victorian Turkish Baths is a spectacular spot for a steam, a soak or an invigorating massage (or a cold plunge, if that’s your jam). At the Royal Pump Room Museum you can learn more about the history of this spa town, before heading to Betty’s Café Tea Rooms for scones and sandwiches.
