  • Simple and scenic pop-up site on a Yorkshire Dales working farm
  • A 10-minute drive to Bolton Abbey or Stump Cross Caverns
  • Direct access to the Dales Way; two village pubs five mins' drive away
Taking a walk on the Dales Way? You’ll probably want to stop off here – Pasture Pitches is in a supremely handy spot just off the long-distance path a couple of miles south of Appletreewick, with direct access from the path to the site. And the rather tougher 90-mile Dales High Way is only about a mile away too, making this a suitable spot for the more hardcore hikers as well. Even if you’re not planning to tackle the full 80-mile trail, this spot is well located for walking in the Yorkshire Dales – you could step out onto the Dales Way for a shorter riverside walk or check out lots of other lovely local trails including the Valley of Desolation waterfall walk or the routes around Embsay Crag (also a popular bouldering spot, by the way). Giving your boots a rest is no problem, either, as there are plenty of other attractions nearby including the stunning Stump Cross Caverns, the atmospheric ruins of Bolton Abbey and the heritage train rides of Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway. Skipton (15 minutes’ drive) is a handy place to find shops and places to eat, but there are also two pubs five minutes’ drive away in Appletreewick. This is a small and simple pop-up site on a working farm, so facilities stretch to just portable toilets and showers, but you’re welcome to bring a barbecue.

What customers say

This is a simple, peaceful riverside campsite with spectacular views, ideal for walkers with direct access to the Dales Way and paths to Bolton Abbey and Appletreewick. Visitors praise the friendly and helpful owners, clean toilet and shower facilities, and spacious pitches. While some note limited facilities, particularly when busy, the site is described as a 'hidden gem' offering a back-to-basics escape. Issues with toilet privacy and track access after rain have been noted, with owners actively addressing feedback.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Quiet site (final May weekend) with an abundance of good spots to pitch tents and park campervans. Also dog friendly (provided you keep them under control).

Farmer was friendly and allowed me to leave my car there for the day after I'd had my night's camping. May not have done so if they'd had heavy bookings for the next night, but they didn't, so I really appreciated this, as parking availability elsewhere in the area is not exactly abundant.

Disliked Didn't cause me any problems, but the site currently only has two toilets and one shower (which was decent). This would only ever lead to problems if the site got super-busy. I've not seen the site's peak occupation, so this may not have been an issue for anybody so far.

Also, wasn't a problem for me, but phone reception was weak and patchy and there is no WiFi. If you are Internet-dependent, or working an out of hours remote support job, this site will not work for you.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Simple set up. It's a field located down by the river. Good Loos and shower facilities that and are clean and just work. Friendly host. Pitch largely where you like there are good flat spots and enough sloped areas to keep the pitches spaced. It just works ! We stayed as a mixed group of camper vans and tents. It's a spectacular setting in one of the Dales walking distance to Bolton Abbey just along the river path (about 1hr walk).

But remember to bring supplies with you. This is a simple site.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Peaceful riverside campsite near Bolton abbey . Lovely clean toilets and a shower. Friendly owners

Disliked Nothing. Only thing was midges as it's right by a beautiful river but that's obviously a hazard of a lovely waterfront location so take some spray!

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked This is our 3rd visit to Pasture Pitches is an absolutely beautiful place to visit, the River Wharf is stunning especially at this time of year with all the ducklings. My husband is a Wildlife Photographer, he was gob smacked and thrilled to photograph stunning wildlife, including an Osprey which was totally unexpected. Steve and Charlotte are so welcoming and helpful. There are cleaning and toilet facilities which are kept extremely clean.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful space with others. See you again very soon.
