  • Wildlife haven in the Yorkshire Dales for hikers and cyclists only
  • Peaceful eco farm next to the Dales Way, 20 minutes' drive from Hawes
  • Guest barn on site with microwave and honesty box for drinks
Now here’s a location that’s just got ‘peaceful nature’ written all over it – suitable for hikers and cyclists only, Nethergill Farm is an eco farm and a sustainable wildlife haven where you can pitch in wild meadows accompanied by the sound of owls hooting in the surrounding trees and with the waters of Nethergill Beck running through the grounds. There is no car parking and no vehicles are permitted on site at all. What’s more, this secluded location is in a central position in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, placing it firmly within not only some scenic territory but also a designated dark-skies area where you’re likely to be treated to some splendid stargazing on clear nights. There are often colourful sunsets to be seen in the evenings too, so it’s worth being settled by that time to appreciate the display. The idea here is to preserve the wild nature of the location and keep costs minimal while also providing a few comforts for guests – so that means you’ll be able to pick your own pitch and will have access to wifi and toilets, but there are no showers on site. The site’s nature barn is set up with maps and other info, and has a washing-up sink and microwave (with high-quality frozen microwave ready meals for sale to make life easy). You’ll also be able to help yourselves to tea, coffee and soft drinks with payment via the honesty box to save you lugging too much stuff along with you. All of these facilities may be of particular interest to those walking the Dales Way – the trail passes through the farm on the section from Buckden to Ribblehead, so it makes a very handy place to spend the night.
