General

  • Spacious site between the Yorkshire Dales and Forest of Bowland
  • Within half an hour of the Three Peaks, Malham Cove and Gisburn Forest
  • Lockable bike store and bike wash; fully-licensed bar

Got a bike? Get on it and pedal over to Dalesbridge, a cycle-friendly site between the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland.

Here on this roomy and tree-filled site a lockable bike store awaits for your valued two-wheeled vehicles, as well as a cycle wash area so you can hose the mud off after long days up hill and down dale. The site team is steeped in local knowledge too when it comes to Dales trails and Bowland bike paths and this peaceful setting is all about half an hour’s drive from the Gisburn Forest, where mountain bikers of all ages, fitness and nerve can pedal a route to suit.

Whether you’ve been making white-knuckle rides down the slopes, trying to bag the Three Peaks in 12 hours or settling down for the scenery on the Settle-Carlisle railway, you’ll have a quiet and welcoming base to come back to at Dalesbridge. There’s ample room, staff who are happy to help, and most importantly for mountain roamers returning with a thirst, a fully licensed bar.

If you’ve returned hungry as well, you’re welcome to barbecue bangers and everything else on site, and shops and supermarkets are 10 minutes’ drive away in Settle.

Good communication prior to our visit and on the way. Very warmly welcomed by site owners who couldn't do enough to ensure we were comfortable. Cabin was warm, extremely comfortable beds, everything we needed for meals, lovely hot shower, ideal for 2 adults, one teenager and one small child. Site was totally child and dog friendly.
Brilliant location - close to great walks and cycling, Ingleborough cave and towns/villages with shops and pubs with excellent food.
Evenings in bar were great. New Year's Eve was the best we have had for years - great cocktails, food and company of owners' family and other campers.

Amazing customer service. relaxed atmosphere. Hut was very well equipped and clean (dont expect high end luxury, they are described as walkers huts) Great location and fantastic bar.

    Disliked:

Lack of lighting around the camp site. Shower in the cabin needs a bit of work, getting the temperature and pressure right was hard work.

Easy location to get to. Lovely host who came as soon as I rang the bell.
Gave me local site info and told me about local attractions and places to visit.
Site was very quiet apart from the fact that it was a particularly rainy and windy weekend.
Toilets and shower were basic but practical and clean and the toilet shower floor was heated which was a really nice touch.
There was only one other motorhome on one of the nights so very peaceful.
    Lovely views across the fields.

Directions

The Dalesbridge campsite is located just off the main A65 road between Ingleton and Settle. To find us, do not turn off the main road and if travelling from the Settle direction we are 200m past a second-hand car garage on the left-hand side of the road. If travelling from Ingleton we are just past the second turning into the village of Austwick on the right.

The nearest train station is Clapham (North Yorkshire) which is a 3-mile walk away along quiet country lanes. The nearest bus stop is in Austwick village a 5/10 minute walk away. The local taxi company is Austwick Taxis.

Sat nav: please note that our entrance is directly off the A65 - do not turn up Orcaber Lane!

Local attractions

The Three Peaks of Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent are all reachable within half an hour's drive of the site, so it's your choice whether you hoof it up them in a single day, or take your time, savouring views and devouring hard-earned picnics on top.

Starting 10 minutes away, the walk to Ingleton Falls is gentle but no less rewarding, and even though you’re heading deep down instead of up, the caverns and wild rock formations of Whitescar and Ingleborough caves make for unmissable wanders.

For walks with wildlife, make the half-hour trip to Malham Cove, where a pair of nesting peregrine falcons can be spotted in the summer months, alongside resident populations of jackdaws and housemartins. You can climb the massive amphitheatre cliffs of the cove, or follow trails up and around taking in the glacial Malham Tarn and Janet’s Foss waterfall.

To see some wildlife at closer quarters, the Settle Falconry Centre (five minutes' drive) has daily displays of flying and feeding and if you feel you’d like to soar through the skies, the Ribble Viaduct section of the Settle-Carlisle Railway makes a fair imitation.

If all this outdoor, high altitude stuff has made you peckish, head over to the Wensleydale Creamery (40 minutes) to learn how the famed crumbly cheese is made… and then sample some, but of course.

Must see

  • Lancaster Castle (18.2 miles)
  • Beacon Fell Country Park (19.5 miles)
  • Levens Hall & Gardens (19.8 miles)

National Trust

  • Malham Tarn Estate (7.7 miles)
  • Sizergh Castle and Garden (20.6 miles)
