The three peaks

  • Family-run farm campsite on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales
  • Lake District National Park and Forest of Bowland 40 minutes’ drive
  • Luxury showers with underfloor heating; dog-friendly site
Not one national park, but two – with a National Landscape area thrown in for good measure. That’s what you get at Dales and Trails, a small, family-run and exclusive-use campsite on the edge of the spectacular Yorkshire Dales National Park. It’s also in pole position for excursions to the Lake District National Park or Forest of Bowland National Landscape (both around 40 minutes’ drive). Based on a working farm with views to the Three Peaks near Giggleswick (10 minutes), this rural site is also in a dark-skies area, so make sure you cosy up around the firepit on clear nights for the chance to watch the stars glittering across the heavens. Facilities here have been nicely thought out: guests have access to smart modern shower rooms with underfloor heating (bliss on a brisk Yorkshire day) and luscious toiletries provided. There are many scenic walks straight from the site, so dog owners, bring your pets too and exercise them among the untamed Dales scenery. Cyclists and bikers can relax, happy in the knowledge that there’s dry, secure storage for bicycles and motorbikes, and drivers can charge their electric vehicles too (for a small fee).

What customers say

This small, friendly campsite offers spectacular 360-degree views of the Yorkshire Dales. Visitors consistently praise the immaculate, modern shower and toilet facilities, often described as hotel-standard. The owners are frequently highlighted as exceptionally welcoming, helpful, and attentive. Pitches are well-maintained and spaced. Minor points include occasional wind exposure due to elevation and a desire for more covered washing-up areas. Metered electricity is available.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Beautiful location and amazing 360 degree views. Well kept site and luxurious bathrooms (with heated floors). Very friendly and welcoming hosts. Loved that electricity was metered rather than an arbitrary fixed cost extra applied like most other campsites. I think this is much fairer and certainly works out cheaper for us. Great that camp fires are allowed - one of the highlights of camping.
Overall, a fantastic campsite and with the in-train improvements (additional WC and washing up block) it'll be even more amazing.
We enjoyed it so much that we stayed another night, despite it being sub-zero!

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Beautiful location, spacious pitches and immaculate bathrooms. Lauren and Charles were very welcoming and ensured we had everything we needed for our short stay. We look forward to visiting again. We didn’t use the WiFi but we were told it is free and superfast.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Just home from an unusually good week of mostly sunshine and frost over NY. Great little campsite, with super helpful owners. well equipped with 2 warm modern shower rooms - just like home! Best thing for me was the fantastic views over the valley.

Disliked Leaving!

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked The proprietors Lauren and Charles are such friendly and helpful people, they are the real selling point of the site. That and the outstanding area the site is situated in. My pitch was level and easy enough to place my caravan on, the electric hood up was nearby and the water and waste facilities weren't too far away either.

Disliked The 2 combination loo and shower rooms we're amazing with heated floors so we're nice when getting out of the shower etc. Only a small observation but the facilities may get very busy later during the summer season.
Also, again it's a personal observation. But log burning in fire pits etc around the site is permitted, even in a caravan it's difficult to avoid the burning smell at times. I didn't like that to be honest.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Wonderful site with flat pitches which remained firm through the rain we had, with easy car access and not a long walk between the tent and facilities building which has individual shower/loo rooms rather than shared, which were more luxurious and warm than the lodges I'd just stayed at! (construction had also just started on another set)

Charles was very welcoming and had great knowledge of local walks/views and places to drive out to, including a great tip about making sure to do the Pen-y-ghent walk anticlockwise to do the steep part first away from the sun and the gentle descent.

Still loads I want to see in the area, will do my best to make it back. Also shouldn't need to bring firewood, there was a pinned price list around where you could buy wood/kindling and also lots of farm products like eggs, beef and lamb.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked By far the best site we’ve stayed on!
The toilet/shower facilities are incredible. Extremely clean, warm (which was a god send in the Novemebr rain) and welcoming.

The site is nice and small but the pitches are super spacious.
We had pitch 6 and the sun set and sun rise from there was beautiful.

Both owners couldn’t do enough for us and were very attentive and responsive to all queries we had.

We will be returning!

Disliked Nothing! Even in the wind and rain the site provided everything we needed.

Local attractions

The energetic among you will no doubt relish the challenge of hiking the Three Peaks (it’s 10 minutes’ drive to Ingleborough), or try climbing at Castleberg Rock (10 minutes) and fell running directly from the campsite. But there’s plenty of low-octane fun to be had too: have a potter around Malham Cove (25 minutes), or spot the stream trains chugging across sweeping Ribblehead Viaduct (25 minutes). Pretty Dales towns to explore include Hawes (40 minutes), where you can learn about local life in the Dales Countryside Museum and taste award-winning cheeses at Wensleydale Creamery. The market town of Giggleswick and its close neighbour Settle (10 minutes) are both packed with cosy old pubs, while in Skipton (half an hour), you can cruise the Leeds and Liverpool Canal on a day-hire barge. And talking of water, you can be cruising Lake Windermere in 50 minutes, fishing on Stocks Reservoir in the Forest of Bowland in 40 minutes, or following the circular trail to dramatic waterfalls at Ingleton (20 minutes).
