  • Spacious and secluded grass pitches in Drax village, North Yorkshire
  • A 40-minute drive from York museums and Beverley Minster
  • Walks directly from site; pubs and shops within 15 minutes’ drive
With a quiet site tucked into secluded fields and tree-shaded orchards, Laurels Park’s well-maintained pitches have views over fields just begging to be explored on foot. Bring the dogs, bring the kids, bring family and friends – and give yourselves all a chance to chill and really kick back in North Yorkshire countryside near Selby. Facilities on site cover a smartly kitted out loo block with an electric shower, plus chemical disposal and water points around the meadows. With only a handful of pitches to choose from, you’ll also have plenty of space to yourselves too. Barbecues are permitted, and you can pick up supplies for the grill in the local market town of Selby (15 minutes’ drive). For sunny days, there’s a beer garden in the local pub in Drax village (five minutes ) and if you’d like to treat yourselves to a slap-up meal, the site owners heartily recommend the inn at Camblesforth (10 minutes’ drive). If you feel like getting out and exploring straight from the site, you can get the walking boots on and head for trails at Skipwith Common National Nature Reserve (25 minutes, look out for grazing ponies). Within 15 minutes’ drive you can be on the golf course, practising clay-pigeon shooting or pampering yourself in a spa, and if you fancy a change of pace, book a cooking class at Carlton Towers School of Food (10 minutes).

Local attractions

At Laurel’s Park, you’re ideally placed to explore several major Yorkshire cities. Leeds (45 minutes’ drive) has cool shops and a lively restaurant scene, plus contemporary works at the Leeds Art Gallery and the fine collection of weapons displayed at the Royal Armouries Museum (40 minutes). Step back in time for a history tour of York (40 minutes), walking around the Roman walls, or discovering the stained-glass, pink-stone beauty of York Minster. The Shambles is one of the oldest streets in the UK, lined with gift shops and host to an artisan market. Talking of York, JORVIK Viking Centre (35 minutes) is a cracker for curious kids, as it brings the smells and sounds of the Viking era vividly to life. Equally fascinating are the shark encounters and feeding sessions at The Deep aquarium (50 minutes) in Hull. If the children still have an overload of energy, let them loose on the grassy meadows at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (45 minutes) while you admire the outdoor installations.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Quiet and peaceful with roomy pitches and EHU. A friendly welcome from the host when we arrived. Level pitches. Not far to nearest pub, unfortunately they don’t do food any more but luckily we had some stuff to make sandwiches. Only little niggle was the shower seemed to be just in the ladies toilets, my partner felt awkward using it, so would have been good to have a Mens shower too. We enjoyed our overnight stay and would stay again
