  • Grass pitches at a racing circuit a 10-minute drive from Scarborough
  • Filey Brigg 15 minutes’ drive; North Yorkshire Water Park 25 minutes
  • Dogs welcome; splendid views of the coast; nearby restaurant
Motorcycle racing and sandy beaches might sound like a fairly unusual combo, but you do get prime access to both at Oliver’s Mount. First of all, for the sporting enthusiasts among you: this green pop-up site is part of the road-racing circuit of the same name, a historic track that sees roaring action six weekends a year. It’s a top spot to catch some motorcycle races and car rallies. Having said that, away from those motorbike-focused weekends, the site is remarkably peaceful, and an excellent base from where to explore Scarborough and its seaside attractions (10 minutes’ drive) and the coast of North Yorkshire. On site are level grassy fields for your tent or motorhome, with heaps of space for children to run around and play, plus woodland walks that ought to make your dog’s tail wag with delight. Not forgetting the pretty epic views of the coastline from this elevated plateau… From a practical point of view, there are two toilet blocks, showers and a washing-up area. Water is available too, as are chemical disposal facilities. Barbecues are allowed, and the nearest shop is a five-minute drive away. But why cook when you can be cooked for? There’s a café/restaurant within walking distance (about 10 minutes), and you get spectacular views over Scarborough South Bay with your breakfasts, burgers or locally sourced fish.

What customers say

This spacious, peaceful campsite is praised for its friendly staff and convenient location, a short walk from Scarborough. Visitors appreciated the individual bins and picnic benches provided. Although the facilities are basic, they are generally kept clean. A significant water outage was handled efficiently by staff. Some guests noted a desire for more showers, particularly during busy periods. Directions to the site could be clearer, and some found the grass cuttings left after mowing to be a minor issue.

From the manager: That's a bit harsh on us Michael, there are loads and loads of flies everywhere right now due to the very dry and warm year we've had so far.

Liked The camp was great, hassle free.
The water was cut off because of a leak and Trigger the site manager went out of his way to make sure everyone had water and cleaned the toilets endlessly.

Disliked Would of liked electric

From the manager: Hi Carly, Glad you enjoyed our site and thanks so much for your patience and understanding whilst we had a once in 30 years water outage. Yorkshire Water gave us a workaround pretty quick, but our caretaker Trigger did a sterling job to keep toilets etc. going with bottled water etc. Pleased to report that Yorkshire Water have repaired the burst water main now.

Bethany B.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The grounds were spacious with good distance to their amenities. It was nice and quiet, respectful fellow campers. The guy checking us in was very accommodating and provided us with a wheelie bin and concrete block for our bbq. There was an issue with the water but it was fixed and we were all provided with bottles of drinking water for cooking, cleaning and washing.

Walking to the south end of Scarborough took around 35 minutes and was a pleasant quiet walk.

Disliked There was an issue with the water in the toilet/shower/washing block whereby we didn't have water for the evening and through the night. This was however compensated for by supplying us (some may say oversupplying) with plenty of courtesy drinking water.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely quiet, spacious site. Nice welcome on arrival from Trigger along with wheelie bin and block for BBQ. The bin is a fantastic idea, not seen this before. Picnic benches also available on some pitches, another nice touch. Toilet blocks were exceptionally clean and I have to say when the site experienced a water outage due to a nearby mains burst they handled the situation swiftly and efficiently with loads of bottled water made available for personal use and in toilet/washing areas whilst still maintaining cleanliness of toilets until the issue fixed. Well done.
Not a dislike, but if I had to pick possible improvements I would suggest more than one shower per male/female, especially when the site is busy. The Triton shower itself was excellent. And perhaps a small onsite freezer for our ice packs, but that would be really picky!
Overall, we loved our stay and can’t wait to come back. Well done and thank you.

Valid point about the showers, we need more for when we're fully booked as we were last weekend. We will try increase the number of showers for next season.

Liked The space was good that was it to like

Disliked Very outdated needs a facelift and needs some facilities there . Like going back in time .

From the manager: Hi Paul,
It's a pop up campsite, it's only advertised as such, it has fresh water, elsan point, toilets, showers and plenty of space. Not sure what in our description made you think you had booked anything more than that?

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Big Clean campsite loads of room to pitch up wherever you want, clean bathrooms with showers overall good campsite loved that it was on the racetrack, gorgeous views from the edge beautiful to watch the sunrise

Disliked Some additions could be to have some more benches as there are a few here and there (not disliked but if you have a very low car ie lowered on springs/slammed the little incline at the campsite entrance might be a little issue but aside from that it’s amazing

Local attractions

Scarborough’s two sandy beaches (South Bay and North Bay) are separated by a headland topped by the ruins of a medieval castle. At the back of North Bay, the Scarborough Open Air Theatre puts on live music by big international names, and there are more events at the elegant Scarborough Spa, built in the late 19th century. Residents at Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park (10 minutes’ drive) include meerkats, lemurs and alpacas, plus friendly farmyard animals that enjoy being fed (please only use the site-approved feed bags, though). From there, drive a further five minutes to Filey Brigg Cliffs, where you might spot puffins flying overhead. Keen to have a go at paddleboarding or kayaking, but nervous to do it in open water? Head to North Yorkshire Water Park (25 minutes), where you can try these (and other) watersports, or just bounce, slide and splash around the inflatable adventure course.
