  • Grass pitches at a racing circuit a 10-minute drive from Scarborough
  • Filey Brigg 15 minutes’ drive; North Yorkshire Water Park 25 minutes
  • Dogs welcome; splendid views of the coast; nearby restaurant
Motorcycle racing and sandy beaches might sound like a fairly unusual combo, but you do get prime access to both at Oliver’s Mount. First of all, for the sporting enthusiasts among you: this green pop-up site is part of the road-racing circuit of the same name, a historic track that sees roaring action six weekends a year. It’s a top spot to catch some motorcycle races and car rallies. Having said that, away from those motorbike-focused weekends, the site is remarkably peaceful, and an excellent base from where to explore Scarborough and its seaside attractions (10 minutes’ drive) and the coast of North Yorkshire. On site are level grassy fields for your tent or motorhome, with heaps of space for children to run around and play, plus woodland walks that ought to make your dog’s tail wag with delight. Not forgetting the pretty epic views of the coastline from this elevated plateau… From a practical point of view, there are two toilet blocks, showers and a washing-up area. Water is available too, as are chemical disposal facilities. Barbecues are allowed, and the nearest shop is a five-minute drive away. But why cook when you can be cooked for? There’s a café/restaurant within walking distance (about 10 minutes), and you get spectacular views over Scarborough South Bay with your breakfasts, burgers or locally sourced fish.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Very large field with plenty of space. Great views over Scarborough and lovely walks nearby.
Toilets clean enough, showers ok.

Disliked: Field cut whilst long which resulted in loads of dead grass which you end up dragging through into camping area. Not a major dislike however worth mentioning .

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for the great review. Apologies for the grass after the cut. The camping field is so large, we need to do it by tractor whenever we can borrow one.

Avoid on a race weekend!

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Walk into Scarborough. The location was good for a 45 minute walk into town (hilly). Nice open space.

Disliked: Check online and avoid on a race weekend. Grown ups urinating behind their vans in broad daylight, loud music and large groups. Adults and kids still up making a lot of noise at 2.30am. No staff walking around checking on anything. Tents, rubbish and BBQ's all left on site after people had left. Staff should have done more but they didn't leave their little cabin - to busy checking spectators in for the race.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: It does certainy get busy on race weekends, especially on bank holiday weekends as it's a very popular attraction and location. We do highlight when race weekends are on, but for many, that is the main attraction of the site, but you are right, the character can go from very peaceful to very busy on race weekends, so best to be aware. I am sure if you came back on a non race weekend and non-bank hoiliday weekend, you would find the peace you are looking for.

Also, our main man Trigger who takes good care of everyone races on the race weekends so you didn't get to experience the great care he noemally takes of all of our guests on non-race days.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Everything! We turned up were allowed to pick our own pitch, we chose one with a bench but the bloke who we met on arrival (i didn't get his name, he was very friendly! ) said we can pick anywhere and he would bring the bench to us. We were allocated our own bin. The showers and toilets were clean and somewhere to wash your pots too. All with warm water. BBQs allowed. It was peaceful and the views were amazing. The dog loved the open field space. Short walk into the town. We only stayed one night as it was a quick stop off for us but would definitely book again and stay longer.

Disliked: Nothing we disliked about this place.

From the manager: Brilliant, so glad you enjoyed your stay. Trigger is the name of the very helpful bloke, he's a legend and looks after everyone as well as he can.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Big field so lots of room and space to spread out, it was really quiet because of this. Super friendly staff

Disliked: On top of a big hill so it was really windy but that’s unavoidable
Only one washing up station so there was a bit of a que.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Glad you enjoyed it, and yes, it can get windy on the field, so on a windy day, prob best to pitch next to a hedge for some cover.

Liked: Lovely quiet site, toilets and shower were clean. We had a picnic bench on our pitch and the owner brought a bin over for us.
We had a lovely walk into Scarborough, will definitely stay again.

Disliked: One shower, can imagine when the site is full this could be an issue.

From the manager: Thanks for the great review. One female and male shower could be an issue when we're full. Hopefully we can increase those in future.

Local attractions

Scarborough’s two sandy beaches (South Bay and North Bay) are separated by a headland topped by the ruins of a medieval castle. At the back of North Bay, the Scarborough Open Air Theatre puts on live music by big international names, and there are more events at the elegant Scarborough Spa, built in the late 19th century. Residents at Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park (10 minutes’ drive) include meerkats, lemurs and alpacas, plus friendly farmyard animals that enjoy being fed (please only use the site-approved feed bags, though). From there, drive a further five minutes to Filey Brigg Cliffs, where you might spot puffins flying overhead. Keen to have a go at paddleboarding or kayaking, but nervous to do it in open water? Head to North Yorkshire Water Park (25 minutes), where you can try these (and other) watersports, or just bounce, slide and splash around the inflatable adventure course.
