  • Peaceful site in the Yorkshire Wolds near Scarborough and Filey
  • On a working farm: meet the friendly farm yard gang
  • Play areas, Mini Bees play barn, on-site walks and a café-bar
There’s nothing low-key in the least about the gorgeous site of Humble Bee Farm… think a stunning setting in the Yorkshire Wolds and a location close to everything you might want for a Yorkshire holiday: coast, countryside, seaside, pubs and restaurants. Humble Bee is a working arable and stock farm, in a peaceful setting in North Yorkshire countryside just under 10 miles from Scarborough. It’s made up of quiet surroundings, pretty pastures and open skies, to provide a serene and family-friendly space for farm holidays in a convenient location. Guests are most welcome to meet the farmyard crew, including guinea pigs, rabbits, alpacas, goats, donkeys and a Shetland pony – and see Farmer Percy doing the rounds on his tractor. An interactive nature trail wends its way around the farm too, giving info along the way about the wildlife all around; keen-eyed nature spotters might spy hares and hedgehogs among many other critters. When you're feeling peckish, stroll to the Hive Café Bar, which arranges 'light bite evenings' and pre-ordered pizza nights, along with cocktails, beers, wines and Prosecco. Get your hands on filled breakfast rolls, barista coffee and homemade bakes too. Got kids in tow? No probs – there’s a fireman’s pole to keep them occupied, along with loads of room in the football field for a kickabout. Regular events, including wildlife rambles and nature-spotting activities, run on site too… with stargazing by night for those who can keep awake. Among the site amenities are showers and toilets, a parent and baby washroom, a launderette and disabled facilities. Humble Bee accepts group bookings, but it’s very much not a party site – it’s in a quiet rural valley for peaceful and laidback stays. The site's elevated position does mean that it gets windy from time to time.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Camped with friends on the main field at the end of all the glamping pods. There's only 5 pitches here and reasonably flat.
Plenty of space, easy access to water. A bit of a trek to the toilet and wash room but well kitted out.
Great play area for the children. And each morning you can go and feed the animals with the farmer, fun but gets busy.

Disliked Wasn't clear where each pitch started / finished, but plenty of space
No phone signal but there is WiFi available
Glad we read reviews before going, as we would not have been happy on the piggy back field, to far from toilets.

Piggy Back non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Tent pitch...great view .

Disliked Shower...3 showers but sign saying use 'orange shower only'

Large bin overflowing, had to move some rubbish to fit in the bin.

From the manager: Many thanks for joining us here at Humble Bee Farm and for staying with us on one of our two campsites here on our working farm.
You were staying on Piggy Back which has great views and is a short walk from toilets and showers.
The toilets and showers which are for Piggy Back guests usage includes three showers and two toilets.
During quieter weekends, then one shower is available for Piggy Back guests to use, along with the toilets.
It is worth noting however, there is an additional shower/toilet block on the main site too which are available for guests to use if they wish.
With regards to your comment about the having to move rubbish from the main bin.
While we check the toilets, showers, wash up areas and all bins regularly, at busy time there will be a build up and guests can always alert a member of the team, either in the Hive or in the shop/reception if they feel there is anything that needs or attention.
Once again we thank you for joining us here at Humble Bee Farm and for your feedback.

Piggy Back electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Location, site amenities, lots of things to entertain children

Disliked Distance to the toilets with young children, campsite was on a hill so was extremely windy. Would have been nice to have some grass to sit outside our campervan.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for joining us for your camping holiday, we are glad you enjoyed your stay overall.
We thank you for the comments about the situation, which is, as stated on the website, in an elevated position and it does get windy from time to time.
The site you stayed on is a mix of some grass and gravel hardstandings but thank you for your comments.
The nearest facilities are within walking distance of Piggy Back, so they are separate to the campsite.
We do advise, again on our website FAQs, for guests to bring a toilet tent if they have one.
We do have additional toilet facilities on the main site too.
Thank you again for your feedback, from everyone at Humble Bee Farm.

It's an excellent site just needs a few tweaks.

Piggy Back electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Bathroom facilities were clean and modern the feeding of the animals for my young granddaughter was fantastic and she came back with fresh eggs every morning.

Disliked We were on the hill with no protection from the wind in a tent we had to use the extra strong pegs as the ground was very hard only ideal for camper vans .

From the manager: Many thanks for staying with us here at Humble Bee Farm.
We are so glad you enjoyed your visit with your grand daughter.
We appreciate your feedback re: the harder ground on Piggy Back campsite.
The hard ground and need for strong tent pegs is mentioned on the website and we do sell special tent pegs and mallets in our onsite shop if guests attend without these items.
We do get campers on Piggy Back who comment about the lovely views from this part of the site, which is just a short walk from toilets, showers and our onsite shop.
We thank you again for your comments, from everyone at Humble Bee Farm.

Liked The animals were a massive hit with the kids and the piggy back field was peaceful

Disliked The extremely strong ground made it difficult to pitch, the facilities were a fair distance from the piggy back field and could use refurbishment.

From the manager: Thank you for joining us here at Humble Bee Farm, which offers a working farm experience along with camping, glamping, and holiday cottage staycations.
For camping holidays, we have Piggy Back which is in an elevated position and as the website clearly states, is on hard ground.
This part of our site has stunning views of the Yorkshire Wolds and offers spacious pitches.
The facilities you mention are within walking distance and includes two toilet cubicles with hand basins, three spacious showers, a washing up area, hair dryer, and a site notice board.
These facilities are cleaned thoroughly and regularly and at busy times, however if there is lots of usage by guests, then guests only need to inform a member of our helpful team and we would clean them again as soon as possible.
We have received lots of favourable comments about these facilities in both previous reviews and by word of mouth.
These facilities are also monitored for wear and tear, and for any damage or faults.
We also reinvest in our site here at Humble Bee Farm by replacing equipment, upgrading accommodations and for example this year our site has a brand new play area for our guests to use.
If we spot anything, or we are informed by a guest that something isn’t up to standard, then we action it as soon as possible.
We are glad your children enjoyed their stay as we have an indoor and outdoor play area, Farmer Percy Club each morning, and three farm walks to enjoy.
It is worth noting we also have Reflection Garden, the two shower and toilet blocks, a sports field, The Hive café bar, and the shop/reception for our guests to use and enjoy.

Lovely staff and wonderful site.

Liked I liked the lovely warm welcome I received when I arrived and continued throughout my stay. They couldn’t have been more helpful when I had a couple of hiccups coming to my rescue.Such a beautiful campsite with lots to see and do . Facilities were spotlessly clean . Hosts fantastic.

Piggy Back non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The views from the pitch and seeing the lambs so close to the tent was amazing. The pitch was spacious and it it felt secluded and quiet.

The owners have clearly put a lot of work into the glamping feel and the main part of the site. The main part of the site is definitely somewhere I'd recommend.

Disliked The distance to the facilities was just too far to be comfortable. It was quite a way and was downhill there and uphill back. The road is not lit at night and I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable if I needed to use the toilet in the night. I wouldn't be able to recommend that field to anyone simply because the toilets are too far away. I would have loved a simple composting toilet or something just to be able to use at bedtime.

The toilets closest to Piggy Back Field are not the ones in the photos on pitch up, they are not modern like the ones in the photos, they are much further down within the rest of the site. There's nothing wrong with these facilities, it's just not what is shown on the photos.

For some reason, only one shower out of the three was in use when we stayed so we had to wait while the other showered before walking back up together.

Our field felt very separate from the main site.

From the manager: Thank you for joining us here at Humble Bee Farm during a busy Bank Holiday weekend.
We appreciate that you chose to stay with us in Piggy Back Field campsite, which has stunning views over the Yorkshire Wolds, which is a naturally hilly area in North Yorkshire.
Piggy Back Field offers spacious pitches and lots of space for families and couples, so they can relax and recharge.
The facilities onsite include toilets, showers, wash up area, shop and reception, The Hive café bar, the indoor play area, the Farmyard Gang and the hen house, which are all within walking distance of Piggy Back.
We opened Piggy Back in 2024 and so far we’ve had overwhelmingly positive feedback and rarely has the distance from the site facilities from Piggy Back been mentioned.
We have also put clear signage in place as to where the facilities are located and we even provide a map for guests when they check in at reception so they know where everything is.
Just so readers of this review are aware, we have two toilet blocks here at Humble Bee Farm.
We can confirm that we have put the correct photos on the listing for the main site camping/electric hook up area.
These facilities were recently modernised and any of our guests can use them.
The facilities which are closer to Piggy Back include two toilet cubicles with washbasins; three showers with wash basins; a wash up area.
While these are not a big as the main facilities, they are always kept very clean and are closer to Piggy Back and therefore are more convenient than the main site ones, and are pictured on the correct listing.
Regarding your comment about the showers not being in use: as mentioned there are three showers in the ones near Piggy Back and these are contained within spacious cubicles.
If there are any queries as to which showers are in use, then staff, who are onsite from 7am in the morning, are more than happy to help with a query.
We can confirm all three showers were in use later in the Bank Holiday Weekend.
Just as a last comment, reception is open daily between 9am and 5pm, where help and advice is readily given.
FAQs on the Humble Bee Farm website which provides answers to many questions.
This includes recommending campers in Piggy Back bringing a small camping toilet if they can.
We thank you again for your comments and feedback, from everyone at Humble Bee Farm.
