  • Peaceful site in the Yorkshire Wolds near Scarborough and Filey
  • On a working farm: meet the friendly farm yard gang
  • Play areas, Mini Bees play barn, on-site walks and a café-bar
There’s nothing low-key in the least about the gorgeous site of Humble Bee Farm… think swishly modern accommodation, a stunning setting in the Yorkshire Wolds, and a location close to everything you might want for a Yorkshire holiday: coast, countryside, seaside, pubs and restaurants are all close by. Humble Bee is a working arable and stock farm, in a peaceful setting in North Yorkshire countryside just under 10 miles from Scarborough. It’s made up of quiet surroundings, pretty pastures and open skies, to provide a serene and family-friendly space for farm holidays in a convenient location. Guests are most welcome to meet the farmyard crew, including guinea pigs, rabbits, alpacas, goats, donkeys and a Shetland pony – and see Farmer Percy doing the rounds on his tractor. An interactive nature trail wends its way around the farm too, giving info along the way about the wildlife all around; keen-eyed nature spotters might spy hares and hedgehogs among many other critters. When you're feeling peckish, stroll to the Hive Café Bar, which arranges 'light bite evenings' and pre-ordered pizza nights, along with cocktails, beers, wines and Prosecco. Get your hands on filled breakfast rolls, barista coffee and homemade bakes too. Got kids in tow? No probs – there’s a fireman’s pole to keep them occupied, along with loads of room in the football field for a kickabout. Regular events including wildlife rambles and nature-spotting activities run on site too… with stargazing by night for those who can keep awake. Among the site amenities are showers and toilets, a parent and baby washroom, a launderette and disabled facilities. Humble Bee accepts group bookings but it’s very much not a party site – it’s in a quiet rural valley for peaceful and laidback stays.

Piggy Back non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: I liked the lovely warm welcome I received when I arrived and continued throughout my stay. They couldn’t have been more helpful when I had a couple of hiccups coming to my rescue.Such a beautiful campsite with lots to see and do . Facilities were spotlessly clean . Hosts fantastic.

Disliked: Personally i couldn’t find anything that i didn’t like about the site. 5X about everything.

Piggy Back non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The views from the pitch and seeing the lambs so close to the tent was amazing. The pitch was spacious and it it felt secluded and quiet.

The owners have clearly put a lot of work into the glamping feel and the main part of the site. The main part of the site is definitely somewhere I'd recommend.

Disliked: The distance to the facilities was just too far to be comfortable. It was quite a way and was downhill there and uphill back. The road is not lit at night and I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable if I needed to use the toilet in the night. I wouldn't be able to recommend that field to anyone simply because the toilets are too far away. I would have loved a simple composting toilet or something just to be able to use at bedtime.

The toilets closest to Piggy Back Field are not the ones in the photos on pitch up, they are not modern like the ones in the photos, they are much further down within the rest of the site. There's nothing wrong with these facilities, it's just not what is shown on the photos.

For some reason, only one shower out of the three was in use when we stayed so we had to wait while the other showered before walking back up together.

Our field felt very separate from the main site.

From the manager: Thank you for joining us here at Humble Bee Farm during a busy Bank Holiday weekend.
We appreciate that you chose to stay with us in Piggy Back Field campsite, which has stunning views over the Yorkshire Wolds, which is a naturally hilly area in North Yorkshire.
Piggy Back Field offers spacious pitches and lots of space for families and couples, so they can relax and recharge.
The facilities onsite include toilets, showers, wash up area, shop and reception, The Hive café bar, the indoor play area, the Farmyard Gang and the hen house, which are all within walking distance of Piggy Back.
We opened Piggy Back in 2024 and so far we’ve had overwhelmingly positive feedback and rarely has the distance from the site facilities from Piggy Back been mentioned.
We have also put clear signage in place as to where the facilities are located and we even provide a map for guests when they check in at reception so they know where everything is.
Just so readers of this review are aware, we have two toilet blocks here at Humble Bee Farm.
We can confirm that we have put the correct photos on the listing for the main site camping/electric hook up area.
These facilities were recently modernised and any of our guests can use them.
The facilities which are closer to Piggy Back include two toilet cubicles with washbasins; three showers with wash basins; a wash up area.
While these are not a big as the main facilities, they are always kept very clean and are closer to Piggy Back and therefore are more convenient than the main site ones, and are pictured on the correct listing.
Regarding your comment about the showers not being in use: as mentioned there are three showers in the ones near Piggy Back and these are contained within spacious cubicles.
If there are any queries as to which showers are in use, then staff, who are onsite from 7am in the morning, are more than happy to help with a query.
We can confirm all three showers were in use later in the Bank Holiday Weekend.
Just as a last comment, reception is open daily between 9am and 5pm, where help and advice is readily given.
FAQs on the Humble Bee Farm website which provides answers to many questions.
This includes recommending campers in Piggy Back bringing a small camping toilet if they can.
We thank you again for your comments and feedback, from everyone at Humble Bee Farm.

Piggy Back non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The piggyback field is great if you want great views and it's a more peaceful stay as it's a bit further away from the facilities and glamping but it is open so you will feel the weather more
Shop open daily and clean showers and toilets
Friendly staff
Good 4g/5g signal on the field

Disliked: Cafe/Pizza hut closed but understandable as it was out of season when we stayed

Deluxe wigwam cabin (hot tub)

Liked: Loved the glamping feel and its quirkiness. Hot tub was a massive hit and was exactly what we needed. It was lovely and clean and provided the basic essentials.

Disliked: Could be more clear about the towels as was only provided with a hand towel. Could also include the Quilt is feathered as for my partner who is asthmatic caused abit of a problem.

Piggy Back electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked: Convenient location for Yorkshire Coast.
Tidy site with good facilities.
We were moved to a more sheltered location on request as we were in a roof tent with a gazebo annex.

Disliked: We would like to see another toilet block towards the furthest areas, though not overly busy during our stay, you may have to wait for showers and toilets during peak periods.

Original booking allocation was too exposed for forecast weather (Though we were grateful to be moved - Pitch-Up needs a Roof Tent category as the requirements are often different to Tents or Camper Vans )

Too close to noisy campers (But that was after being moved)

Wi-Fi is charged per device, per day - Not had to pay before now

From the manager: Thank you very much for joining us here at Humble Bee Farm in Piggy Back camping site and for taking time to offer your feedback.
Piggy Back a new facility which is open from early May to early September.
We are glad we could help you with your pitch request so thank you for mentioning this.
We are sorry to hear about noisy campers ... our office is open daily so guests can let us know of any queries, possible issues etc, and we always endeavour to help as much as possible.
Re: WiFi: we provide WiFi onsite which is payable per device. It is worth noting there is a reasonable to good phone signal at the top of the site (near Piggy Back) for guests to use data.
Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope you can join us another time.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Amazing site! A great family feel to it and very safe and secure. Lots of farm animals too keep little ones occupied plus wildlife, we saw a hare and an owl in the evenings! Lovely clean facilities. We would love to return next summer

Disliked: There is no signal at all, so even just to check the weather forecast and plan your day if it's raining was difficult.
The ladies changing rooms would benefit from a little stool to put your clothes inside the cubicle.

Local attractions

Countryside, coast, beaches, forests, moors and family days out… all ages and tastes are easily sorted around here. Make for the Yorkshire coast as a first stop, to Scarborough 20 minutes’ drive away for Scarborough Castle, SEA LIFE Scarborough, the seaside amusements and picking up fresh seafood at the harbour fish market. From Scarborough, head north to Whitby (35 minutes, or about 50 from the farm) for its famed abbey (and fish and chips), or the same distance in the other direction for spotting the thousands of seabirds clustered around Flamborough Head. There’s much to see inland too, such as Eden Camp at Malton (30 minutes), recreating the sights, sounds – and smells – of World War II; woodland hikes at Dalby Forest, also 30 minutes away, and seeing the splendour of the stately home Castle Howard (40 minutes). Or have a puff on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway on its spectacularly scenic route from Pickering (40 minutes’ drive) across the moors to Whitby.
