Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch (overflow)

Liked: Good size, well stocked shop and bar lounges with free WiFi. Swimming pool with slides. Bus stop right outside the campsite for buses to Filey, Scarborough and Bridlington which are pretty regular. Nice 45 minute cliff side walk to Cayton Bay which we did or can walk the other way to Scarborough if you fancy a longer walk.

Disliked: We was put in the 'over spill' field which was not level. There was only 3 toilets and 3 showers available nearest to the 'over spill' pitching field where we was staying so with it being a busy campsite this wasnt convinent and my 3 year old ended up wetting herself because there wasn't a toilet available. No play area in the area and it's a fair walk to the playground which is at the top end of the campsite by the cliffs so could do with one down by the main entrance. The games room is tiny so can get cramped when busy. Drinks at the bars are too expensive. Not a lot of entertainment on for families it's mainly sports on TV and loud band on in the evening. Swimming baths was overcrowded as it's not a big pool, 'lifeguards' don't even do their jobs by not paying attention to anyone in the pool and one las just sat there biting his nails while my 7 year old daughter nearly drowned. Lockers are tiny so people couldn't fit all their belongings in so left them around on the floor.

Liked: This was our 4th visit. Very well run site. Perfect location on the coast, close to Filey and Scarborough. Swimming pool helps on a rainy day for kids and on site pub for adults.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: We really enjoyed our weekend at crows nest. The pitch was great and we had a beautiful sea view. The showers and toilets were spot on and even had a family shower room which made things easier. Scarborough not to far away for a beach day. Was rained off one day so we tried the onsite pool, it's not very big so gets busy but once it died down a bit it was enough for the kids rather than sitting in a tent while it was raining. Plenty of entertainment on an evening for the kids there was a couple of bands on over the weekend. Tigers in the dark were very good! And a great way to end a lovely weekend away old school camping. Overall crows nest is brilliant. No complaints from us. Definitely recommended and we'll be back with family and friends.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: It was lovemt that we got to choose our pitch rather than allocated pitched. We had a lovely view over looking the sea, and could see scarborough in the distance. Amenities was a 5 minute walking distance. Showers were lovely and warm and the wash pot facilities were clean and hot water which is not always the case on camp sites.

Disliked: Although the toilets were cleaned daily they seemed to get messy quickly, and the swimming baths on site was really cold so couldn't stay in long as it was just too cold. The site stated no fires, and I can see why as alot of tents were close together and busy. Yet fires were lit and even fire works which was a little nervy .

Upper area fully-serviced gravel touring pitch (super)

Liked: The heated indoor pool was excellent. The shop well stocked. The fish and chips good. The shower/toilet blocks excellent

Disliked: Great site until mass groups arrived and 'took over" the pool. No longer safe for the younger kids. The teenage lifeguards not upto job of dealing with them. Didnt think large groups allowed but they all pitched together and then started a football match. Kids left feral in the games room and zooming round on electric scooters. Loud firework set off Saturday night around midnight. Upset all the dogs on site and awoke my youngest granddaughter with a start. We left a day early as we figured it would only get worse as the BH weekend progressed.

Liked: Great location..

Disliked: Unfortunately although it was 22c everywhere else... There was a complete fog /mist blanket constantly blowing across from the sea...we couldn't stay.

From the manager: What a ridiculous review. There was a sea fret covering the east coast.

Local attractions

Leave the car behind: buses running between Scarborough and Bridlington pick up from the end of the Crows Nest Caravan Park drive and discount day tickets are available to keep more money for seaside rock. The kids will probably clamour first for Scarborough: there are the North Bay and South Bay beaches to bounce around as well as the traditional seaside fairground and donkey rides. But Scarborough’s also a hotspot for culture vultures, with the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Scarborough Art Gallery and Rotunda Museum alongside regular festivals and events throughout the year. Fab Filey is even closer: this Edwardian town has a five-mile stretch of sand and is backed by the peninsula and cliffs of Filey Brigg – this is the place to birdwatch and wildlife spot, with rockpools along the beach and many species of birds and beasts to see all year round. The 110-mile Cleveland Way starts here for hiking your way around Yorkshire’s history and heritage: Scarborough Castle, Whitby Abbey and Dracula tales, Mount Grace Priory and Rievaulx Abbey are all along the route. Away from the seaside and vampires, puff between Whitby and Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, veer between villages in the North York Moors National Park or get citified around York and Hull, all within easy driving distance of Crows Nest.
