  • Well-kept and quiet adults-only site at Easington in North Yorkshire
  • Danby Lodge National Park Centre 15 minutes’ drive; Whitby 25 minutes
  • Fully serviced pitches for tourers; pub across the road from the site
Set in the village of Easington, gateway to the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and the North Sea coastline, adults-only Townend Farm has a handful of serviced touring pitches with far-reaching countryside views. Handy facilities include electricity and water, recycling, grey water disposal and an Elsan point a short walk from the site. Please note that there are no showers or loos. There is a B&B on the farm however, and occasionally breakfast may be available (please check with the owners on arrival). For other eats, barbecues are permitted, and there are picnic tables dotted around the camping field for alfresco meals. Directly opposite the pitches is a dog-friendly pub selling Yorkshire beer, good grub and Sunday roasts, and if you’re after a takeaway, there are several places serving pizza or Chinese and Indian food that will deliver to your pitch. Locally there are tea rooms at the farm shop in Easington (five minutes’ drive), where you can buy all the basic storecupboard staples. For major stocking up, there’s a small supermarket in Loftus (also five minutes), which has a posh bakery, a gift shop and café as well. A regular bus from just outside the site takes you to all cute coastal towns and villages like Whitby (25 minutes) and Staithes (10 minutes); the service runs late into the evening.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked A very passionate host awaits to welcome you, very friendly and informative. Lovely grass field with level hardstanding, water and electric on your own pitch. The site is ideally situated on the X4 bus route so you can travel to Whitby or Middlesbrough for a capped charge of £3. You can also purchase a hop on hop off so you can visit intermediate stops for just over a tenner. The bustop is opposite the campsite and always on time. They run approx every half hour. Across the road from the site is a real ale pub that serves great food at very reasonable prices for both food and drink. The site has the benefit of being adult only.

Disliked A bit of a walk to the chemical disposal point but not a big problem

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Location was perfect for getting to coastal towns and villages.
All pitches were fully serviced and we had 5g mobile service on EE and Vodafone so video streaming not a problem.
Pub across the road was excellent. Sunday lunch was the best I've had in years and was just £15.95. The staff were great and they even sold Caffreys 😋
Even a pizza takeaway across the road.
This site is a little gem. Very small which is what we like. The owner was very friendly and directed us to a small beach further up the coast called Skinningrove where we could take our two dogs which was perfect. Just an hours drive to Durham which is a nice day out.
Will definitely be visiting again when we choose to travel to the North Yorkshire coast.
Gavin & Lisa.

Disliked Little bit of a walk to elsen point but we knew that and with a trolley provided it's no big deal, don't let that put you off.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Excellent location for exploring the area. The journey was all motorways and A roads, so no thin winding roads to worry about. We had already been given our pitch number via email and asked to telephone on arrival and Julie would come over to welcome us. Which is exactly what happened. She explained where things were and told us about the local beaches, from Redcar down to Whitby, (Saltburn-by-the-sea and Runswick bay were both very pretty) also the bus services that would take you to them. She was absolutely delightful. Very friendly, very helpful and very welcoming.
The pub, literally across the road from the site was lovely and welcoming. The food was very good too.
The site had level hard standing fully serviced pitches, with plenty of space around. There were also a couple of picnic tables that you could use if you wanted, on the large grassed area in front of the pitches. The owners also provide a small trolley on each pitch if you need it, when taking your cassette toilet to the elsan point. Although the site is on the A174, there was very little noise and the road was never very busy and very quiet at night.
If you are happy using your own on board facilities then this is the ideal place to stay and very cost effective compared with many other sites in the Whitby area. All in all an excellent site and we will return.

Liked Wow!! What a beautiful site!! Super easy entry, very friendly owner who can’t do enough to make you feel more welcome.
I read a review on CL booking website saying this owner was unfriendly….absolute garbage! Can’t wait to come back here…we even had breakfast in the B&B which was delicious! Great knowledge of the local area as in where to go and how to get there etc. Stunning views and super quiet…what more could anyone ask for.
A very peaceful and relaxing stay.

Thank you to everyone. Looking forward to seeing you all again soon.

Local attractions

The Victorian-era resort of Saltburn-by-the-Sea (15 minutes’ drive) is a good place to start your exploration of North Yorkshire’s coastline. It has a tramway running down to the beach (in summer only), an old-fashioned pier and – among other eateries – an exceptional seafood restaurant. Staithes, Runswick Bay (both 10 minutes) and Sandsend (15 minutes) are pretty seaside villages with steep streets lined with shops and cafés leading down to the sea. Lively Whitby (25 minutes) beckons with its renowned abbey standing over the town, monuments dedicated to Captain Cook (who lived there as a young man) and shops selling jet foraged from the shoreline. You can also take dolphin-spotting cruises out onto the North Sea from the harbour. Turning inland, the North York Moors National Park is home to numerous cycling and hiking trails as well as pretty villages like Goathland (half an hour), where the series ‘Heartbeat’ was filmed. Danby Lodge National Park Centre (15 minutes) is a one-stop entertainment hub with an art gallery, sculpture trail and zipwires; it’s also a Dark Sky Discovery Site where you can watch the canopy of stars through telescopes on clear nights.
