General

  • Family-run riverside site in the Yorkshire Dales National Park
  • Minutes away from the Coast to Coast Walk and the Pennine Way
  • Angling and walking along the nearby River Swale

Swaleview Park is a family-run wildlife haven at the head of the Swale Valley, less than 10 minutes' drive from the historic market town of Richmond.

The area is popular with anglers, who can go fishing in the River Swale, and walkers, who can take a leisurely stroll on the embankment or venture further afield for more challenging hikes through the national park.

The site's sturdy, timber framed pods are fully insulated and heated, and come with an electricity supply; there’s ample space for two adults and two kids, and plenty of headroom, and each pod also comes with its own sheltered terrace.

    Access to river
    Closeness to Richmond
Toilets and showers (clean but only 2 of each donuts a good job it was quiet!)

    Disliked:

Washing up facilities - small, poor light and water not hot.
Camping pod- small amounts of surface mould on walls needed rubbing off.
Camping pod needed more of a sheltered area-when it rained you couldn’t move inside for all of the chairs etc we had to bring in.

The site was lovely - very well kept, toilet/shower facilities are new and clean and very close to the pods and park - handy for children!! There is a washing up shed just by the pods - small but it suffices having a sink and hot water. The drinking water tap is also by this shed so easy to refill. The views from the site are beautiful, very pretty scenery and right by the river. There is a visitors 'hut' right by reception that has lots of leaflets, pay phones and a vending machine. We stayed in the largest pod; two adults and small children. The pod was clean and fresh, plenty of sleeping room, it's separate from the caravans which we preferred as it felt more private - set behind some trees but the campsite still visible. There's a small heater and lights inside the pod Apart from that it's literally an empty pod so still a camping experience.

    Disliked:

The pods are very near to the road, so there is passing traffic. It could perhaps do with being a bit more hidden from the drivers - there is a fence and bushes but the pods are still visible from the road.

Everything about our swaleview experience was brilliant & peaceful.
My sister & I plus 4 children had a 2 night, 3 day stay occupying 2 pods while we had a mini road trip exploring the Dales.
Swaleview park is an ideal location,
Safe, family friendly site where our children could play in the on-site park & have a adventure through the woods & down at the swale river.
(accompanied by an adult of course)

    Facilities on-site are immaculate.
    Manned reception area, vending machine,
    Children's park,
Fresh water tap, dishes cleaning shed,
Shower, toilets, laundry facilties, bin areas located around the park,
    on-site parking & free WiFi.

    Disliked:

    Pod 2 heater needs replaced.
    Park owner taking action.

Local attractions

Swaleview Park lies close to the route of the 2014 Tour de France, and the long distance trails of the Coast to Coast Walk – a 192 mile-long unofficial and mostly unsignposted long-distance footpath that passes through the Lake District National Park, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the North York Moors National Park – and the Pennine Way are both minutes away from the site.

Visit the Georgian Town of Richmond – known as the 'gateway to Swaledale' – 10 minutes away by car; there you'll find lots of tearooms; the Green Howards Museum; the Georgian Theatre Royal; the largest cobbled marketplace in England; and a converted railway station that houses a cinema, a restaurant, an art gallery and several boutiques.

Reeth, also 10 minutes' drive away, lies at the meeting point of Swaledale and Arkengarthdale, two of North Yorkshire’s most northern dales. The village has a large sloping green where lots of traditional events and markets are held throughout the year, and there are heaps of walks and cycling trails that begin from there. Again, you'll find lots of galleries, tearooms, shops, pubs and restaurants around the village.

Further afield you'll find the market towns of Leyburn and Hawes in Wensleydale.
