Route directions

From Richmond and Reeth If you’re approaching from Richmond or Reeth on the B6270, as you approach Keld you will pass Keld Lodge on your left hand side. Continue straight on for approximately 600 meters, passing a pair of houses on the right hand side after about 300meters and then as you come round the corner you will see us at the bottom of the hill on the right hand side and the entrance is clearly marked with our ‘Park House’ sign. Please note caravans are advised to go past the gate and turn around at the junction and then approach from the opposite direction. From Kirkby Stephen If you are approaching from Kirkby Stephen on the B6270, as you near Keld the road will narrow with walls on either side. You will pass some large rocky cliffs on the left hand side and you’ll run parallel to the river. Continue on and you will see the turning for Tann Hill and we are immediately on the left hand side, with the entrance clearly marked with our ‘Park House’ sign. From Tann Hill If you are approaching from the A66 (please note this is not suitable for long or heavy vehicles and caravans have been known to get stuck) follow the signs to Tann Hill. After 3 miles you will pass through the small village of West Stonesdale and then you will come down a very steep sharp zig zag bend. You will then cross the bridge over the river and we are immediately on the left hand side with the entrance is clearly marked with our ‘Park House’ sign.

Local attractions

Wainwath Falls The beautiful Wainwath Falls, standing below the limestone cliffs of Cotterby Scar, are just a 2 minute walk up the road and are well worth a visit. In the summer the deep clear waters make this a popular swimming hole and a great spot for a picnic at any time of year. Local Walks One of the best ways to explore Swaledale and its spectacular scenery is on foot, and we are happy to provide our guests with route maps for the many circular walks which start from Park House, ranging from 2-12 miles. These include the Keld loop, the Muker circular and the Ravenseat round, plus we also have maps which can take you to Gunnerside or Reeth along with a bus timetable to get you back (the bus stops right outside of our gate) if you prefer not having to retrace your steps. Local Attractions Tann Hill We are just 4 miles from the famous Tann Hill Inn, which at 1,732ft above sea level is the highest pub in Great Britain. www.tanhillinn.co.uk The Wensleydale Creamery We highly recommend a trip to Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes where they handcraft cheese to time honoured recipes. They have a modern visitors centre with museum and a viewing gallery where you can watch the cheeses being made and then there’s the best bit; visiting the tasting room where you can sample of all of their delicious and varied flavours of freshly made cheese. www.wensleydale.co.uk Outdoor Adventures For the adventurous we can recommend Alfresco Adventures who offer a wide range of activities including Canoe and Kayaking, Gorge walking, Mountain Biking and climbing in the area, all provided by fully qualified instructors. www.alfrescoadventures.co.uk Hawes Hawes is just a 20 minute drive away and is a bustling market town with many interesting shops, craft workshops and cafes. You can also visit the National Park visitors centre and close to Hawes is Hardraw Force, England's highest single-drop waterfall. Kirkby Stephen Just a 25 minute drive away is Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria’s upper Eden valley. It’s a traditional market town of historic buildings, cobbled yards, quaint corners and interesting shops and also has a station where you could board the train on the famous Carlisle to Settle railway line. Barnard Castle Just a 35 minute drive away is Barnard Castle, a lively and bustling market town, with regular markets, speciality shops, restaurants, bars and tea rooms. The town is steeped in history and you can take a tour of the castle or take a trip to the widely acclaimed Bowes museum. Richmond A little further afield and just a 45 minute drive will take you to Richmond, a beautiful market town, with Norman castle, Georgian architecture, cobbled market place, monuments and abbeys.
