Farm non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The site was in a picturesque valley, close to a river. The little one and the dog spent hours playing in it. The woman who owend the site was very welcoming. We definitely enjoyed our stay and will be back.

Disliked: Only thing this site is missing is a shower facility.

Field non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Nothing as didn't stay

Disliked: Turned up, followed written instructions to call on arrival. Made numerous calls on landline got returned service not on network. Mobile number rang several times with no answer only answerphone so left message saying we had arrived. Drove down onto grass pitches none of them numbered. Waited 1/2 hr as didn't have any confirmation of what field to go on pitch number or where facilities were. Decided as this was our last night to drive 120 miles home, although we had already drove 100 miles that day from our previous stopover. At the time of this review 15hrs later still no return call.

From the manager: We are so sorry you didn't stay and that we were out of signal when you arrived. Thank you for pointing out that the message you recieved via pitchup, on booking, did request that you contact us on arrival. The message you recieved from us prior to your stay stated "Please register your arrival by ticking off your name on the arrivals clip board just inside in the Reception Area...If we’re not about, don’t worry, we’ll try and catch up with you to say hello at some point!" I realse how confusing it must have been and how frustrating not being able to reach me by phone was. Thank you for taking the time to point this anomaly out.. All feed back is gratefully recieved and helps us maintain an efficient 'booking in' system and hopefully a warm welcome, even at times when we may not be imediately availble. We will take steps to try and ensure that the information provided on booking is correct. Again, thank you for your time.

Highly recommended. Very scenic peaceful site.

Field non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: First time visiting this camp site but safe to say we’ll be back again! Very peaceful and surrounded by incredible views, the private footpath to the river is an added bonus. We had our two dogs with us so it’s great for venturing off on a walk. The weather wasn’t on our side (can’t be helped!) but it left us having the camp site to ourselves. Toilets are basic but are kept clean. The perfect place to switch off from the world, however there is free WiFi in the visitor centre if it’s needed. Highly recommend this campsite to anyone.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike, if you’re wanting a showering facility then this isn’t the place for you. Didn’t bother us in the slightest.

Farm non-electric gravel motorhome pitch

Liked: First visit this year , nice to come back and see Cath, Raymond and Martin. Nice to see young Jack helping out too. :) Perfect place to relax and chill out. Lovely riverside walk to Gunnerside where the local pub The Kings Head served up an amazing homemade chicken and leek pie. We will definitely be back to sample more off the menu . New managers very friendly.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike for us

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: So lovely to see you back, it's felt like a long winter! Gunnerside is lovely and just the right distance to 'walk up' an appetite. We're so lucky to have such a great choice of local hostelries. The pictures are great, it's good to see the place from your eyes.

Local attractions

Roam around Richmond (35 minutes’ drive away) to investigate the ruins of Easby Abbey, along with a Norman-era castle and the Green Howards Regimental Museum – or splurge on locally-produced snacks at the cobbled market square for snacks while walking through nearby woodland. If that whets your appetite for more artisan treats, aim for the Wensleydale Creamery (35 minutes), where you can learn about the history of Yorkshire cheese and, more importantly, pick up masses of the stuff to gorge on. When you’re full to the brim with dairy products, another wander’s in order to work it all off – amble to a waterfall such as Aysgarth Falls (half an hour), then move over to the Aysgarth Edwardian Rock Garden close by for – you guessed it – a little look at an Edwardian rock garden. If inclement weather is making outdoor expeditions too tricky, find shelter in the 14th-century ramparts of Bolton Castle (25 minutes).
