One look at the green riverside location at Brompton Caravan Park and it shouldn’t be hard to understand why this place is just as suitable for family outings as it is for a couple's getaway. On the banks of the pretty Swale river, this peaceful family-run North Yorkshire site is surrounded by scenic countryside for laidback strolls. Get your rods at the ready, too, as guests are very welcome to unwind by fishing on the banks of the Swale. The site is handily placed between Richmond and Brompton on Swale, two Yorkshire locations with characterful pubs and restaurants. Market towns, historic properties, waterfalls, museums and walking trails are all within a short drive of the site, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise once you spot that it’s only four miles from the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and around 20 miles from the North Pennines National Landscape. Which will you track down first: waterfalls or historic sites? For the former, Richmond Falls (10 minutes’ drive away) is one of the most popular walks in the Richmond area – only three miles long – or you could head to the three waterfalls at Aysgarth Falls (35 minutes’ drive away), a little way into the Yorkshire Dales. For historic sites, you only need to head to Richmond to browse the Green Howards Museum or catch a show at Georgian Theatre Royal, built in 1788. Raby Castle and Newby Hall are within a 35-minute drive of the site, the first with a 200-acre deer park and a 14th-century castle, and the second with a miniature steam train that’s sure to make the kids shout 'choo-choo'.

Camping pod

Liked Everything really. Has a lot to offer. Shop onsite, Take away onsite, Kids arcade, play area and football goals. Lovely spotless site and close to attractions such as Easby Abbey, Richmond Castle and an hours drive from York, So lots to visit around it and lovely walks also. We stayed in one of the pods, which was compact but was lovely and warm, had all that was needed such as kettle, microwave, cutlery, plates. There was a picnic bench right outside the pod facing the river swale. Scenery was beautiful especially watching the sheep going along the top of the river bank into a field in the early morning. Shower block and toilet block spotless.

Disliked nothing could have made it better but If I was to say 1 thing, maybe another shower and toilet block over by the pods.

Liked Our pitch was overlooking the river which was really nice, well kept site in a beautiful location, Pitches are a little too close together but apart from that its a lovely caravan park with good facilities, can't comment on WiFi as we used our own

Liked Friendly reception staff in a very clean and well kept site. It has a well stocked little shop and cafe(does have set opening times)The river runs right along side the site and you can walk into Richmond via Easby Abbey on traffic free routes.

Liked Pitch quite small once awning was up. Shop open daily but cafe was not open during our stay which was very disappointing. Take away was not open either, so good job took some food and we didn’t rely on the camp site information as it was wrong. Walk into Richmond was around 3 mile quite a long way if you are not a walker. Richmond itself and surrounding area is lovely. Great dog walks from the site and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Motorhome would not start when leaving so young lad came and started it with his starter box which was lovely of him as we were stuck. I would go back but on a weekend when cafe and takeaway are open.

There are museums for all tastes in North Yorkshire. The Bowes Museum (half an hour's drive) has a huge collection of art and sculptures, as well as intricate clothes and shoes from the 17th to 20th centuries. The French château-style building is easy on the eyes, making parkland strolls a particularly fine idea too. Make your way to Beamish - The Living Museum of the North (50 minutes) to see old electric trams, a pit village and other reconstructions from 1900s life in the north of England. York may be a little further away (an hour and five minutes), but it also has lots of attractions, including the popular Jorvik Viking Centre and the historic Shambles. Waterfalls like High Force Waterfall (55 minutes) and Cotter Force will make your camera roll extra pretty. If you'd also like to snap some pics of castles and country houses, try Bolton Castle (25 minutes), where Mary Queen of Scots was once imprisoned, or Harewood House (55 minutes).
