A stay at Galtres Pickering Showground – refurbished for 2025 – includes entry to the family-friendly Pickering Motor Show (at the end of July) or the Pickering Country Fair (at the end of August) during your stay. As well as vintage cars, bikes and enormous trucks, the Pickering Motor Show features lots to do for all the family as well as evening entertainment – all included in the ticket price. There’s a bar and catering available all day Saturday and until 4pm on Sunday too. If you're visiting for the Pickering Country Fair instead, there's also lots to look forward to, including mounted games displays, falconry, dog shows and heavy horses, plus evening entertainment (on Friday and Saturday only) – again, all included in the ticket price. The bar and catering open on Friday evening, all day on Saturday and until 4pm on Sunday. The level camping field itself is sheltered by mature trees and neatly mowed; simple facilities include portable toilets, Elsan points, rubbish disposal and water points. On Friday and Sunday, you can get stuck into an evening barbecue (bring your own gear and buy bits to grill in Pickering's shops, 20 minutes’ walk), but if you’d rather check out a few local pubs and restaurants, you have quite a choice, and there are takeaways in town too. If you’re staying over for a whole weekend, you might also have a chance to try the scenic rail journey from the town's station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway or take a day trip to somewhere like Castle Howard or Flamingo Land Resort.

Liked Ease of access and freedom to come and go into show itself.

Disliked Never stayed on a site where there are so many caravans with motorised generators which were very noisy when they were running. We actually moved pitches because of the noise.

August Pickering County fair non-electric grass pitch

Liked We stayed here for Pickering Country Fair. Absolutely loved this camp site. The security and staff were the best I’ve ever known at an event like this. They were kind, helpful and always checking in around the site to see if everyone is okay. Just a great atmosphere and well organised.

Liked Great that we could have a fire.
Staff were very friendly.
Fantastic that we could enter the show for free.
Nearby to Pickering town centre.
Large pitch and no extra charge for extra tents on the same pitch.

Disliked We booked though pitch up.com which gave us the information that we could arrive from 11am. Other people who booked direct had been told 12pm. In reality we couldn't get in until 12.30pm. Had we known this wouldn't have been an issue but as we didn't we were sat in a queue waiting in hot weather, potentially missing an activity we'd booked nearby for that afternoon.
No showers although we were aware of this and only there one night so was fine.
Sign went up to saying that a particular water point was no drinking water later on during our stay after we had already drank from there.

Liked The toilet and water facilities.

Disliked Lack of information regarding the actual show. Start times for evening entertainment and show start times.
Lack of amenities for food, missing a trick here. Taxis’s that would come or failed to turn up so attractions in the area could be explored. An information booklet with all information would have been a good addition.
