  • Family-run site at the former railway station in Masham
  • Ripon and Fountains Abbey less than half an hour's drive away
  • A 20-minute walk from the town centre, pubs and breweries
Keep your North Yorkshire holiday plans on track at Old Station Caravan Park, a quiet, well-established holiday park on the site of a former railway station. Set on the eastern side of the Yorkshire Dales National Park in a rural setting, this site is on the edge of Masham, a lovely little town with cafés and pubs to peruse at your leisure. This family-run site is roughly a 20-minute walk from the town centre, where two breweries – Theakston’s and Black Sheep – are on hand for beer fans who want to see where their favourite ales are crafted. If you’re not up for the walk, or want to get out to more far-flung destinations, there’s also a bus stop just outside the gates that can whisk you off to various places without the need to drive. Some of the things you may like to visit nearby include the Dales peaks of Ingleborough and Whernside (both of which are visible from site), the famed cheese producers of Wensleydale and heritage spots like Fountains Abbey. York, Harrogate and Ripon are all easily doable for day trips too. On-site facilities include a small shop, a laundry room, a washing-up point and a well-maintained heated amenities block. The team at Old Station Caravan Park pride themselves on their attention to detail and doing their utmost to ensure a splendid stay, so just ask if you've got any queries.

What customers say

This is a well-maintained, clean, and friendly site with excellent facilities, particularly praised for its spotless toilets and showers. It's conveniently located within a short walking distance of Masham town, offering good access to local amenities and attractions. Some guests found pitches to be a little tight and noted occasional smells from a neighbouring farm, along with extra charges for Wi-Fi and electricity usage. Despite these minor points, the overall sentiment is very positive, with many visitors expressing a desire to return.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked Facilities were absolutely immaculate, campsite was not too busy by Monday so no issues getting a shower.
Site was very well kept and owners never stopped.

Disliked Very busy on a weekend and pitches in the middle backing onto each other were close together. Wasn't ideal having to pitch awning onto gravel either as thought that was the point of having hardstanding and grass pitch but we were manoeuvred into place by owner to meet fire regulations.

Liked Great site, staff, good amenities, didn’t eat at the cafe but looked popular. 15 minute walk into Masham. Pod was basic but plenty of room.

BBQ cabin (adults only, four person, pet friendly)

Liked We were very pleased with the warm welcome we received upon arrival, where the staff clearly explained where everything was located. It was a lovely gesture to be upgraded to a larger hut for our stay. Overall, the park itself was kept clean, which made for a pleasant environment.

Disliked The hut was in need of some TLC; specifically, one of the bed/benches had bare hinges on the edge that should have been fixed, and the lack of a curtain on the roof window made for very bright mornings. The internal seating was uncomfortable, the outdoor decking furniture needed a deep clean, and there was a noticeable smell from the neighboring farm. Additionally, there was only one power socket with an extension, Wi-Fi cost extra, and the toilets were only at the main entrance, making for a long walk at night. We felt the coal should have been included, and while we understand there are limited options nearby, the cafe prices were steep. More reasonable prices or a pre-booked breakfast delivery service to the plot would be a great improvement. Finally, it was inconvenient that the shop and reception were closed on Monday morning.

Liked What a great small family run site. We were shown to our pitch upon arrival and it was explained where and how we needed to pitch up. Electric usage was well explained. The site itself is small and access on and off the pitches with your unit is tight, fine if you have a motor mover though. The facilities on site were perfect, nice and clean and nice hot showers too.
Didn't use the onsite cafe so can't comment on that. Only a short walk into Masham which is a bonus.
Will definitely be booking againnin the future.

Disliked Weak TV signal, could only get 25 channels but phone signal was great to connect personal WiFi.

Local attractions

It's really quite a breeze to get to Ripon (20 minutes' drive) – the cathedral city can be reached by car simply by driving south for a while down the A6108, and there’s also a bus service that departs from Masham several times daily that should get you there in about half an hour. Want a sense of what it was like to be banged up in the 1800s? Make tracks for Ripon’s well-reviewed Prison and Police Museum. Fountains Abbey (25 minutes) is another must-see for all fans of history. The 12th-century abbey itself was all but destroyed during the dissolution of the monasteries under Henry VIII, but its striking ruins still stand today against a brilliant backdrop of 800 acres of meticulously-tended water gardens. For food-focused jaunts, meanwhile, you could set your sights on Pateley Bridge (30 minutes), home to The Oldest Sweet Shop in the World (certified by no less an authority than Guinness World Records), or alternatively stick to savoury flavours in Hawes (50 minutes), where cheese is on the agenda at Wensleydale Creamery.
