General

  • Well-maintained pitches behind a friendly rural pub in Yedingham
  • Castle Howard, Flamingo Land and beaches within a half-hour drive
  • Beer garden, playground, river fishing and home-cooked meals

Pitching up by a pub – that’s bound to be a fine idea. Settle in for a tasty dinner, and as many ales (or other tipples of your choice) as you wish, then simply stroll across the garden to get to your bed without any worries over who’s going to drive.

And it’s an even finer idea if the pub in question is a cosy, friendly place like the Providence Inn in the village of Yedingham, around a 15-minute drive from Malton. There’s a cheery Yorkshire welcome for all guests here, be they families, groups, couples or single travellers – the folk on site just request that all visitors respect each other (and the neighbours) by keeping the hubbub down after midnight. (Please do note that there is likely to be a bit of noise from the pub/beer garden in the evenings though – such is the way with pubs…)

Life here is pretty relaxed and informal – guests can pick their pitches, and are welcome to light up barbecues or build fires in firepits. Along with basic bathroom facilities (cleaned twice daily), there’s safe storage for bikes in the outside buildings, and access to the River Derwent for those who’ve brought along a fishing licence and asked permission. Pike are the most likely catch, but there have been sightings of other slippery species around here too.

And so to dinner… home-cooked food is served seven days a week in the pub, and it gets a good thumbs up from the locals, who have been known to drive a considerable number of miles to get their dinner here. There’s a good-sized beer garden for alfresco drinks on fine days, and a generous kids’ play area to keep kids entertained while the grownups nurse their drinks nearby.

Please note

The bar is open between 01/01 and 31/12.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Really big pitches, good toilet / shower facilities, beautiful scenery, great food at the pub, friendly staff, fab play area for the kids, great location close to many North Yorkshire attractions

    Disliked:

A bit noisy in the evening. Did go quiet at 10pm when the pub shut but not sure this would be the case once pubs can open normal hours again. But if you’re choosing to stay at a pub then this is something you have to accept.

Open drive way to car park and animals in field with no fence and stream that was not fenced off

From the manager...

I am a little surprised at the scores you have given us. The cows are not in our field they are in fact over the other side of the river. You have awarded us a 2 for cleanliness and customer service but written in your comments that the pub was clean and the staff friendly. We always try to improve based on customer feedback so it would have been helpful to have raised your concerns to staff. For future customers planning on visiting it is important to note we are predominately a pub offering basic camping facilities. The non electric pitches are at the side of the River Derwent, which the reviewer correctly points out is not fenced off. The river is over a flood bank and children should be supervised at all times. The only resident animal on site is our pub dog. We are located in the countryside and our neighbouring farmers do have sheep and cattle in their fields.

Due to us being new to the motorhome break we thought we would start off not to far from home, and we couldn't of picked a better place to start our new venture, the electric hook up spaces are easy to access and once hooked up to the electric it's home from home, we did use their facilities which were very clean and had plenty of sanitizer, the shower room was large and warm, we had an evening meal in the pub which was lovely and home cooked. It was so nice to wake up to views, peace and quiet and even a rainbow. Only stayed for one night but came home feeling totally relaxed. Will definitely be going back would highly recommend

Providence Inn campsite is a small, well managed site in a lovely North Yorkshire location. Facilities are clean, warm and well maintained - with an excellent hot shower in a heated space adjacent to good washing up provision. The grassy field worked well for our tent pitch and we were pleased to be able to barbecue and sit round our small fire pit. Other campers were pleasant and kept to the hours of quiet. The real bonus is the pub itself - great home cooked food, friendly and helpful staff and good range of drinks. We would definitely go again.

    Disliked:

The only downside was noisier than expected pub customers after closing time. But this did not in any way spoil a lovely 3 night visit.
