Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: very clean, well laid out site. spotless toilets. very friendly accomodating staff. site location exellent for exploring local area North York Moors, Whitby, York etc.

Disliked: bore water. slope back onto main road needs to be a more level transition for longer caravans/twin wheels to reduce grounding on way out.

From the manager: Thank you very much for your review we do take everything on board I would like to just state some of the negative points we are new owners since January we have done a lot of development and done a fantastic job on the campsite up to now I know you said the women do a fantastic job. Everything is clean and spotless and all the husbands was doing walking about with a drink. There is three brothers that own the site it was a bank holiday weekend for everybody to have a lovely time . It is a project for the three wife’s which they are loving it as their husbands have another business. They run six days a week I take on board with the kids on their electric bikes, but they are only little bikes for six-year-olds they make no noise. They are silent It is no different than being on a pedal bike but I do take that on board. We are a family that has kids and we love having families on our campsite as we put a park on there. We are a family friendly campsite we welcome couples everybody is welcome as far as the water goes. We explain to everybody we have had it tested and got certificate. Is it safe to drink it is absolutely fine it’s just a natural flow water. We are speaking with a company to try and solve the problem as it comes and goes so we do take that on board we are trying our best, and we are very welcoming if anybody has got a problem, we resolve it immediately and couldn’t be any further than that and we will go above and beyond for everybody sorry we will not be seeing you again, but thank you for your review

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Very friendly people, the site has loads of potential and you can already see the new owners are starting to make some good progress. Facilities are kept clean and the playground in the middle is a great addition.

Disliked: Our only fault was the electrics tripping, but they are working on upgrading the units to allow for more consumption as new units had already been installed

Liked: Good little site toilets was always clean. This site has been recently taken over by new owners, we had an electric problem which they quickly come and sorted it out. They have recently added 5 more pitches which when the grass grows it will be a great little site. The owners were very friendly and we would definitely go back.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The facilities were clean and the site was small which was nice. Great site for camper vans/caravans.

Disliked: Wasn't sure where to go when we got there. No signs to tell you. The camping field was awful! So uneven with mounds of mud lumps and holes. Was hard to walk on and to pitch on. Almost broke my car driving on. The drinking water smelt so bad that we didn't dare use it.

From the manager: Hi, I am very sorry for your experience you have had. We are currently new owners and we are trying our very best to satisfy all customers and as you would of being able to see we have levelled half of the tent field of and when the grass has grown back it will all be level ready for us to do the other side of the tent field. The water has being checked with Yorkshire water and we have certificates to state that it is safe drinking water. We are currently looking at ways of being able to resolve the issue with the smell of the water. Thank you for your feedback we appreciate it we are trying our hardest to resolve all these problems. Many thanks

Local attractions

What’s a holiday without sea, sand and (hopefully) sun? Luckily, no one has to find out here: the site’s 35 minutes’ drive from sandy stretches at the seaside resort towns of Scarborough and Whitby, so be sure to pack bucket, spade and (for the brave) a swimming cossie for when beach days beckon. There’s more to both than splashing about too. History buffs may be drawn to Whitby, where Bram Stoker was inspired to create some of Dracula’s integral scenes and where the stunning Whitby Abbey sits, waiting to be explored. Down the coast, Scarborough has a castle, museums, golf courses and gardens, as well as the Scarborough Fair Collection of showman’s engines. For more vintage vibes, time stays to coincide with the monthly Mattewsons Classic Car Auction (check dates before travelling), then spend the rest of your break touring stately homes: Scampston Hall and Gardens is 15 minutes away, Burton Agnes Hall and Sewerby Hall and Gardens are both within 50 minutes, and the stunningly cinematic Castle Howard is just 20 minutes from the site. As there are no kids to take care of, you can feel free to spend a few hours touring the Great Yorkshire Brewery (20 minutes' drive) and the Spirit of Yorkshire single-malt whisky distillery (40 minutes) – and picking up a tipple for later – before heading into York (45 minutes) for a night on the town.
