- A third of a mile from Flamingo Land and 30 minutes' drive from York
- Fishing lake, playground and shop selling home baking
If you seek a peaceful base for trips to Yorkshire seaside, fishing, market towns and a delve into quite a bit of the county's mighty extensive history, Ashfield Caravan Park is a nifty place at which to pitch up. And if the kids laugh in your face at the thought of Yorkshire heritage days? The fab theme park and zoo of Flamingo Land is within a couple of minutes' walk.
Ashfield is a family-owned and family-run park, halfway between Pickering and Malton four and eight miles away. Scarborough is within 22 miles, the North York Moors National Park is less than 10 minutes' drive north, and the steaming good fun of the North York Moors Railway is half an hour away. York is also within a 30-minute drive: if the kids say Pah to the historic highlights there, tempt them with the city's chocolate tours or Viking museum...
Facilities on site include a coarse fishing lake stocked with carp, rudd, roach and perch (buy a day ticket when you arrive); a play area with climbing wall, a climbing frame and slides, and a small shop selling essentials, home baking and newspapers.
Amenities are modern and well kept, in a block housing showers, toilets and a laundry with washing machine and dryer.
Two pubs serving food are close to the site.

Local attractions
If you're here with kids, Flamingo Land will probably/ certainly be your first stop... Set only a third of a mile from Ashfield, this Kirby Misperton theme park is home to the UK's most visited zoo, as well as family and extreme rides, rides for smaller sorts, cable cars and a safari train; you'll need at least a day.
To explore some history after that, the 17th-century stately home of Castle Howard (yes, the one in Brideshead Revisited) is 20 minutes' drive away. Kids should like the excellent and interactive World War II museum of Eden Camp, 10 minutes from the site, and a wander around the historic house, 450 acres of gardens and the National Centre for Birds of Prey at Helmsley's Duncombe Park, half an hour away.
And that aforementioned choc factory? It's York's Chocolate Story (40 minutes), telling the sweet tale of the city's chocolate trade with interactive tours, exhibits and events. If you can drag them away, take the kids after that to the Jorvik Viking Centre, to see how slightly more bloodthirsty folk lived.
