Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely and quiet but was midweek so very few children around . The pub also was quiet but good food . Toilet facilities good but in need of a few tweaks as it’s beginning of season not good to have some toilets unusable as locks broken and grills in showers broken and rusted need replaced asap also some shower heads need aligning as flood into the walking area . Shop was also basic needs a look at and really three pound for the smallest tub of ice cream I have ever seen - Four bottles of wine to choose from as as far as I could see no beer . On a good note the site is beautiful lots of birds etc and ducks every morning bringing their baby’s for me to feed from little balls of fluff to nearly full grown it was the highlight of my stay - Bring duck food bread and sweetcorn

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Size of the pitches, large playground, 18 hole golf course, pub on site, no noise after 10:30pm policy, friendly staff, clean shower and toilet block.

Disliked: Previous Rain closed the golf course for 2 days, very poor mobile signal across the site but in the pub it was ok

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The site overall is beautiful. The staff were very friendly. The free crazy golf is amazing and the pub meal was wonderful. We really enjoyed our stay.

Disliked: The park was dirty, the swings were thick in bird poo so they couldn't go on them and the wooden park was very slippery. This was our only downfall along with no wifi at all on the park, the rest of the site was amazing.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Great site, beautiful surroundings, reasonably priced pub on site with amazing food.

Disliked: Scalding hot showers but probably a good thing for most people; so not really a criticism for most women as we don’t mind third degree burns. No wifi, but again - not a total negative. Who goes camping to have better screen time? Not me! 4/5 for facilities because the showers all drained into the adjoining cubicles. A bit minting depending on who is next to you. Otherwise the loos were clean and well maintained. Maybe some extra soap dispensers would be an idea.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Large site with tourers, seasonal pitches, hire vans and residential vans. Beautifully kept, friendly and helpful staff, spotless facilities, lovely and clean site with quirky little pub/restaurant, mini golf, playground. It was surprisingly quiet for the start of Easter holidays, everyone adhered to the site rules.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike 😊

Liked: My friend & I are mature women, brand new to the caravan world and a few snagging problems had us wondering if this really was for us! Hooray for the staff at Akebar! They came to our rescue not once but twice! They made us believe we could do this again and enjoy ourselves! The campsite itself was beautiful! A bubbling stream, ducks paddling around, the sound of bird song in the morning all added to the peaceful atmosphere. The area was clean and well cared for. The shower block was always clean and was in an excellent condition . There seemed to be a lot space for families to enjoy time together. There were childrens playgrounds and dog exercising areas, plus plenty of space for family games. Overall a great place to stay!

Local attractions

Explore abbeys, halls and castles, pick up local produce at farmers' markets (pop into reception on site to find out details), or take off into the countryside for days of hiking, biking and fishing: all are easily done from Akebar Park. Head to Helmsley and East Witton for Rievaulx and Jervaulx abbeys, both founded in the 12th century by Cistercian monks and both among the wealthiest abbeys in the land until being dissolved by the egotistical Henry VIII. Jervaulx Abbey was also the place where Wensleydale cheese originated way back in 1150; see how it's made and have a sample at the Wensleydale Creamery and Visitor Centre near Hawes, then follow up with a sweet treat at the Brymor Dairy ice cream parlour near Jervaulx Abbey. At Leyburn town, find more cheese and heaps of other tasty things at the farmers' market on the fourth Saturday of every month, and heaps of tasteful bits and pieces at its weekly Friday market, antiques centre and art and jewellery galleries. Leyburn's fitness and squash centre allows guests and also has a pool. On the outskirts of town, permit the kids a day out among the chambers, tunnels and many hidden surprises at fabulously odd The Forbidden Corner in Tupgill Park.
