  • Peaceful camping meadow with spectacular North Yorkshire Moors views
  • Flamingo Land Resort 20 minutes’ drive, and Whitby 45 minutes
  • GrillKota barbecue hut available; shops and pubs five minutes’ drive
Chasing some stunning North Yorkshire views, combined with a back-to-basics vibe? Time to take a look at the three-acre camping field at Deepdale Farm, five minutes’ drive from the sleepy hamlet of Keldholme, surrounded by open countryside leading to the North Yorkshire Moors, and warmed by the sun on clear summer evenings. There are no set pitches so you can pick your favourite spot in the camping field on arrival. Simple facilities extend to a toilet, shower block and running water – and that means no electricity on site, so be sure to bring torches and spare batteries for any late-night wanderings. Sheltered by the tree-line is the GrillKota barbecue hut, a chill-out area you can use if the weather gets a bit chilly. With circular seating around a central fire, this a romantic spot for an evening glass of something chilled, and serves just as well as a cosy haven for family suppers around the barbecue. The location also runs a wedding venue, so wedding guests can easily stay on site and access the facilities while celebrating. The site is both family-friendly and dog-friendly. Even more handily, Deepdale Farm is five minutes by car from Kirkbymoorside, which has pretty much everything you need in the shape of grocery shops, cafés, pubs and takeaways if alfresco cooking is not for you.

What customers say

This peaceful campsite boasts beautiful countryside views and spotlessly clean facilities. Guests appreciated the quiet atmosphere and its excellent location for exploring neighbouring villages and attractions, with good access to local amenities. The site is also recommended for mountain bikers and bikepackers. Some minor drawbacks mentioned include tepid showers, a lack of rubbish facilities, and a potentially tricky access track for caravans. The owners are noted for being exceptional and communicative.

Liked Lovely peaceful site with amazing views. Facilities were spotlessly clean. Peppa the dog came to see us lots of times and is one of the most friendly loveable dogs I've ever come across. Overall it's a fantastic, friendly site and well worth the money.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Perfect location for us to drive out and about in neighbouring villages and tourist attractions. The stay was pleasant with well kept toilets and recreational areas. We had no trouble finding it on the sat nav and it was in a good spot for local shops, takeaways and fuel stops. We will definitely be recommending Deepdale Farm to our families and friends and hope to return again in the future!

P.S, what I presume is the owner’s dog is the sweetest little angel that will come around everyone’s tent on site at roughly 8am to make sure everyone is up and awake for their day. We were more than happy to supply all of the cuddles. It really made each day a joy to wake up to!

Liked Lovely area, very clean toilets and showers.

Disliked The shower was cold. No rubbish facilities. Grass needed cutting.

From the manager: There is rubbish faculties, as stated in the text I send to everyone, there is a commercial bin. The shower is usually hot so I shall look in to why it wasn’t that day.

Local attractions

Deepdale Farm is gateway to family walks or harder, steeper hikes in the North York Moors National Park (five minutes’ drive), while riders of all levels can see the countryside on horseback (10 minutes). Anyone keen for a round of golf can find a couple of courses within half an hour. Kids will be happy to hear that visits to the Gruffalo orienteering trail, mountain-biking and Segway tracks in Dalby Forest (40 minutes), or the rollercoasters, gentle family rides and animal experiences at Flamingo Land Resort (20 minutes) are on the cards. There are tempting Belgian chocolate treats at The Chocolate Factory in pretty Hutton-le-Hole (10 minutes), which is loaded up with ice-cream shops too. Climb aboard the North Yorkshire Moors Railway at Pickering (15 minutes, it’s best to book ahead) for a scenic chug across the moors to seaside Whitby (45 minutes), where you can take coastal cruises to (hopefully) spot dolphins in the North Sea, clamber up to the hilltop abbey looking for vampires or go scrounging for jet on West Cliff Beach.
