  • Scenic spacious site on the edge of the North York Moors National Park
  • Two playgrounds, indoor play area, bike hire and pitch and putt
  • Award-winning amenities, licensed shop, and homemade cakes for sale
Families, couples and even the family dog, get ready to strike gold. Popular Golden Square Touring and Camping Park on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park is an absolute gem of a site – safe, scenic, spacious, well-maintained and with enough to do to keep guests of all sizes busy for days. Once the kids are persuaded to leave the two outdoor playgrounds, indoor play area, pitch and putt and football field, countryside walks and trails start direct from the park; seaside frolics at Scarborough and surrounds are an hour away, and a sports centre with indoor pool is five minutes’ drive down the road. Those who prefer to take to two wheels can hire bikes on site and ask the Golden Square owners for info on the best cycling and mountain bike trails in the area; there be loads. Away from the hum of activities, Golden Square has glittering little touches all over: two luxury stonebuilt and heated toilet and shower blocks – previous winners of the local Loo of the Year accolade – as well as two disabled/family bathrooms. An on-site licensed shop sells caravan accessories, toys, games, groceries and essentials like bread and milk (it sells daily newspapers and homemade cakes too; a golden opportunity for afternoon relaxing in the sun, perhaps…). Pitches are warm, sheltered and kept secluded by specially planted trees, hedges and shrubs; the park has also been designed on three levels so that even in the height of the summer season it doesn’t feel crowded. And as it’s North Yorkshire, the views at Golden Square are gold-standard too: moorland, forest and farm stretching all around and into the Yorkshire moors.

What customers say

This is a highly-rated campsite with excellent, spotlessly clean facilities, particularly the toilets and showers. It's praised for its spacious pitches, friendly and helpful staff, and a well-stocked shop. The site offers fantastic play areas and activities for children, along with dog-friendly spaces and beautiful walking routes nearby. While most guests have a positive experience, a few note issues with hard ground for pitching tents and some added costs.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Very well kept grounds, clean and tidy facilities. Friendly staff that helped us out a lot when our car broke down. They made sure we had a place to stay while we sorted everything out and we’re very accommodating. The wardens also helped us get some Calpol in the evening when the shop was closed.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Amazing family site, immaculately clean facilities and brilliant weekend had camping with our 3 and 5 year old. Lots of spacing between tents (choose your own) and perfect location for family days out. We will be back!

Disliked Choose tent space carefully when making booking, we were top tent row (non electric) which was the perfect spot for us but some may not manage the up and down the hill to shower and toilets - not a dislike at all just a consideration.

Liked I never write a review but this park definitely deserves one. Everything about this park is 5 star absolutely brilliant check in, the pitch is a nice big size absolutely plenty of room to have the canopy out on the motorhome plus our car beside it, the dog walk area is absolutely fantastic absolutely huge area, and the toilet/shower blocks are absolutely spotless best ive been too, the shop on site has absolutely everything which is good for people with motorhomes who don’t always have cars to go out and about the area, definitely be back more often thank for a fab stay we did not want to leave 😄

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Everything about this park. The staff were top notch friendly and helpful. I was on pitch 8 where there several seasonal caravans but a couple more vans also arrived whilst I was there. The whole site was incredibly neat, tidy well maintained with gorgeous hanging baskets and planting around the park. I wax a solo traveller with my pooch and there was a fantastic dog walking field, with another dog walking lane at the other end of the park. Children were catered for so well with 2 play parks including a small football pitch, playground swings, roundabouts, climbing frames all set in sand. And most used of all a great zip line. Don’t think it was unused for many minutes in the day. The on-site shop was very well stocked with a wide range of goods. A play barn is near the entrance to site with a large are to play inside and pool table etc in that area. Near Reception/shop are one of the toilet/shower blocks with ample toilets and showers. Also a washing up station with plenty of sinks and an Elsan point for emptying of toilet cassettes. They have a motorhome point for emptying of grey tanks into a concreted drain and lots of drinking water points dotted throughout the site. Also near Reception is an information hut with tons of information leaflets, a free book swap and a hot drinks vending machine. I loved this place and would definitely revisit with my family and grandchildren. The only added bonus would be an on-site cafe/ restaurant but the shop sells all you need so this is just a wish list item. What a lovely site and a credit to the owners/managers/staff.
And it’s only 2 miles from Helmsley which is another big thumbs up.

Disliked Nothing. It was all just lovely

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked We absolutely loved the site as a whole. The pitches are big with an area of grass to each, in order to sit out, play etc.
The shower/toilet blocks were always kept clean and well maintained.
The children loved both parks and had lots of fun. There is a football pitch that often had different groups of children playing altogether, which was nice to see.
The shop provided all the essentials and more, so there is no worry if you forget something or want something more for the children to play with.
All the staff were so friendly and helpful and very welcoming.
At the back of the site there is a large dog walking field with a wooded area for walking and exploring.
We will definitely be returning.
