  • Luxury lakeside lodges on the North Yorkshire coast
  • A 10-minute drive from Filey; Scarborough 15 minutes
  • On-site bistro, indoor pool, play area and playing field
Trying to find a place for a glamping holiday on the North Yorkshire coast? Somewhere by a lake with a touch of luxury? You’ve hit the bullseye with Killerby Old Hall Caravan Park, a spacious and well-maintained family site on the North Yorkshire coast. This glamping retreat has a smart collection of lodges close to the seaside towns of Filey and Scarborough and owners Shaun and Babette look forward to welcoming you here for a relaxed break at their historic property… Set within substantial grounds, the site has access to an on-site bistro-bar called Nine Eighty (open from 9am; it closes at 3pm Monday to Wednesday, 10pm Thursday to Saturday and 7pm on Sunday). There is also an indoor swimming pool, a play area and a playing field. Another lovely feature is that the accommodation is tucked away in a quiet location close to a peaceful lake, where there's ample scope for relaxing in the open air and spotting passing wildlife. For coastal scenery, Killerby Old Hall Caravan Park is under two miles from the sandy beach of Cayton Bay. Pick up beach picnic supplies in Cayton village centre roughly half a mile away, where there’s a post office, local shop and pub. All the lodges are fully heated and insulated, making them great for a staycation in any season. As you enter through the French doors into the main living area, you'll be met by a double bed, bunkbeds and a kitchenette area equipped with a sink, fridge, microwave, two-ring electric hob, kettle, toaster, cutlery, crockery, and cooking utensils. The lounge area has a sofa and 43" smart TV too, as well as a folding dining table and four chairs. Each lodge also has its own ensuite with toilet, sink, and shower. Plug sockets and USB ports are available throughout. Outside, each unit has a private decked area with an outdoor picnic table. Space is available for one car in a central parking area a few steps from the accommodation.

Electric optional gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Well laid out quiet site, lovely toilet and shower blocks. Good selection of accommodation or bring your own!

Disliked: On site bar only opens Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun. There were no instructions on how to use the washers and dryers for which you needed cash to operate them. I asked a member of staff if she could help but she said she wasn't sure how they worked ! You also needed cash to pay for swimming (rather pricey) if it is not included with your accommodation. It could all do with bringing up to speed and enabling you to pay with your card

Bluebell lodge (hot tub)

Liked: The site was beautiful and clean. The lodges were very clean and good space between them so you dont feel overlooked and picnic table is a great addition. We stayed in bluebell Lodge and hotub was hot all the time. The swimming pool was a good size for the kids to splash about in. We had it to ourselves on a couple of occasions. The Lodge itself was clean and tidy and had everything we needed. The site was quiet. The nine eighty bistro had amazing food the pizzas and delicious. We could definitely go back again. The site is well located to get to beach and buses. We had an amazing time. The kids also loved the big field for football. The WiFi signal was good aswell.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Electric optional gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The site seemed small and personal. Great toilet and shower block. Play area close by. Dog walking paddock. Well maintained pitches. Bar and pub. Swimming pool. The site was small and friendly, not oversized and spread out like some mainstream sites. The kids were entertained in the play area and field which was right by our van. The dog walking paddock was just next door and the toilet block a few meters away. Food and drinks were nice in the pub and bar although I’d book through their website because we were turned away (even though it says they accept walk ins) only to book online for a table half an hour later and get in. We felt like the kids were safe and close by and entertained by the play area and fields. Short drive to Cayton bay. We would visit again.

Disliked: Pretty noisy road first thing in the morning quite close by. Crows in the rookery overhead. We do expect country noises (I grew up on a farm) but this was like 1,000 crows cawing late evening and early morning.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Well maintained site, showers clean. Good location for tourist attractions on the East coast. Fully serviced pitches.

Disliked: Expensive for swimming and unfair pricing per person £5 or per caravan £10 . Therefore more family in group cheaper per person to swim. Food and drinks a bit on expensive side also, but nice bistro. Not a big playground for older children okay under 8yrs

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Fully serviced pitches with everything you need right there. Really nice facilities, always clean and tidy. Pitches well maintained & pretty much level. Plenty of space to exercise your dog on the lead & children able to play ball games etc on the field.

Disliked: Pitches are quite tight to get in / out of, especially when it’s busy so you can’t use an empty pitch to swing around to get into yours. The entrance to the site is single track & then you have to go in between 2 buildings which again is tight but we found it OK as long as you took it steady. WiFi not great if I’m being honest.

Local attractions

Pack your swimming costume… you might be a frequent visitor to Cayton Bay beach (five minutes’ drive) while you’re here, and the beach has its very own surf school for budding swell catchers. Sailing lessons are available in Filey (10 minutes) and there are more seaside activities in Scarborough (15 minutes) including more sea swims. A picnic might be a good idea for Sewerby Hall and Gardens (25 minutes) and Castle Howard (50 minutes) – both are historical settings with grand grounds for such afternoons. In Whitby (45 minutes), dine on iconic oysters instead and fuel outings to any family-friendly attractions… These might include Playdale Farm Park (five minutes) and Flamingo Land Resort (45 minutes), two wildlife-themed family days out.
