  • Family-run site on the edge of a peaceful Holderness village
  • A 10-minute drive from Withernsea; Spurn Head 15 minutes
  • Just over half a mile from the coast and spectacular clifftop scenery
Heading to Holderness for a camping holiday? A bright idea indeed, as this peaceful part of the East Riding coast has spectacular scenery and is dotted with an array of pretty villages. Right in the middle of it all is Elm Tree Farm, a relaxed site in the quiet village of Holmpton. Location isn’t everything, though, and Elm Tree Farm has a fair few other perks worth noting. For starters, the fact that the site is family-run (and by a dog-friendly family at that) means that you can expect a laidback, uncommercial approach to camping here. The facilities are in good shape too – there are three toilets and hot showers on site alongside washing-up facilities, plus little extras like a fridge and microwave that guests are welcome to use. It’s kitted out technologically too, with USB ports for easy phone charging and wifi across the whole site. Withernsea (10 minutes’ drive) is down the road for supermarkets and takeaways, while the popular village of Patrington (10 minutes) has award-winning fish and chips and cafés.

What customers say

This is a well-maintained, quiet, and friendly campsite with helpful hosts. Facilities including toilets, showers, and a communal kitchen are consistently reported as clean. Guests appreciate the peaceful rural location, ideal for exploring the local area. The option of breakfast butties and craft ales are highlighted as positive additions. While most reviews are highly positive, some mention limited views or that beach access can be difficult due to erosion.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very peaceful area not crowded just a few campers in a small protected field, close with nature being on the farm. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet (and animal noises!). The facilities are simple yet plentiful. Everything you need, never felt like we were competing and always felt safe here. Really enjoyed getting to know the locals on our visits around the area and Gina is lovely. ☺️

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked As a family of 4 first time campers we didn't know what to expect but we so happy with our experience at Elm Tree!
Gina welcomed us on arrival and explained the facilities. We set up on our pitch which was lovely and flat and had plenty of space either side so didn't feel too cramped.
The toilet and shower facilities were lovely and clean throughout our stay which meant that we were more than happy to pay £1 per use to have a shower.
Use of the fridge and small freezer compartment to refreeze ice packs was very much appreciated.
Other campers were all very friendly and respectful and our 10 year old was thrilled to make a friend to play with on the pitch next to us.
We wouldn't hesitate to revisit Elm Tree and would like to stay longer next time, now that we have the camping bug!

Electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely area, great for birds, dragonflies and wildlife.

Washer and drier on site and a very good selection of books to borrow. Even lots of books for children too.

Lovely to be able to visit the resident chickens and friendly sheep - Barry and Malcolm.

Disliked Unfortunately the site is let down by the toilets and showers.

These are just not clean enough . They appear to have a quick clean daily but the overall cleanliness is poor. The edges and inner areas of the showers showed long standing dirt build up. Flooring always dirty (difficult when wet though, and muddy field) but only a dirty mop to use. Material hand Towel to use for drying hands which was so unhygienic.

From the manager: I find some of the comments in this review very unfair. The majority of other reviews mention how clean our facilities are overall. The toilets and showers are given far more of a ‘quick clean’ once a day in the morning and are checked at least twice more throughout the day! There is most definitely NO ‘long standing dirt build up’ and the flooring is not ‘always dirty’. We have trialled the use of paper towels for hand drying in the past but these get wasted and mostly end up all over the floor! A clean hand towel is provided every day in each unit but campers can always take their own to use.
I do wish people would come and talk to me about grievances before posting them publicly once they have left the site!

Electric grass pitch

Liked Just s small field with 9 pitches, felt very safe and friendly. 3 showers, wash room that had a fridge and small freezer for campers use.
Gina who runs it is the perfect hostess, checking all OK and even delivered some beer to the tent. She also sells homemade jams and marmalade, which are lovely and quite a bargain compared to farm shops.
Location fab with spurn point, withernsea and hornsea all within easy reach. Also some great walks from the site too.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Local attractions

Pitching up here means being within striking distance of the sea pretty much throughout your stay, whether you’re wandering down to the nearest cliffs (half a mile’s walk) or heading further off to the windswept shores of Spurn National Nature Reserve and its discovery centre (15 minutes’ drive) or the classic seaside resort of Bridlington (an hour). Also by the coast, Withernsea (10 minutes) has points of interest that ought to keep you amused for a good few hours, with an intriguing inland lighthouse that stands in the centre of the town and well-maintained amenities at the Pavilion Leisure Centre, where you can take a dip at the pool or work up a sweat in the gym. Further afield, Hull’s Museums Quarter (40 minutes) will be of interest to anyone keen on archeology or William Wilberforce and the abolition of slavery. While in town, the kids won’t want to miss the sea creatures housed at The Deep aquarium; if they’ve still got energy to burn after that you can always take them ice skating at Hull Arena.
