  • Well-equipped family holiday park on the East Yorkshire coast
  • Hornsea beach 10 minutes' drive away; 40 minutes to Hull
  • Indoor pool, spa, restaurant and theatre on site
Bike rides, beach days, fishing, golf, city days, country walks… and that’s just the start of the list of things you can get up to while staying at Skirlington Leisure Park, on the East Yorkshire coast between Skipsea and Atwick. It’s safe to say that, whatever your interests, you’re unlikely to get bored at this family-friendly park, which has both excellent on-site facilities and heaps of things to do in the local area. When you arrive, no doubt the first thing you’ll note is that the park overlooks the coast, so it’s great for a day on the sand or a coastal dog walk (dogs are welcome at the park). Look in the other direction and it’s all countryside, with plenty of paths and bridleways for easy walks and more adventurous bike rides. Pony trekking, sailing and watersports are all nearby too, and there’s a nine-hole golf course and driving range next door. Leisure facilities on site include a heated indoor pool (with a mushroom water feature), a fishing lake, a well-equipped gym, a spacious playground and a spa area with sauna, steam room and hot tub. If you’re hungry after all that, you can pick up snacks at the on-site convenience store, grab a takeaway from the fish and chip shop, or take a table at the bar-restaurant for one of their stone-baked pizzas and a drink or two. Take a look at the schedule for the Pavilion Theatre, too – there’s live music, in-house shows and speciality acts to catch here.

A clean, well-maintained park with friendly staff and good facilities, including a swimming pool and entertainment. Popular with families, it offers spacious pitches and is well-located for exploring the coast. Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely location with excellent facilities including swimming pools.
Nice pitches, very clean and spacious toilet block.
Fish and chip shop onsite was a real bonus as was the access to the markets Saturday and Sunday.
Our electricity went off and when reported to reception a maintenance man came immediately and sorted it out within 2 minutes.
Brilliant weather and will definitely be returning.

Local attractions

The beach at Hornsea (10 minutes’ drive) is a top spot to enjoy an ice cream while admiring the windsurfers – and perhaps summoning the courage to take a dip in these chilly waters. Take a selfie by the Trans Pennine Trail Gateway marking the starting (or arrival) point of the long-distance trail, then head to Hornsea Mere for a spot of boating or birdwatching. If birdwatching is your jam, RSPB Bempton Cliffs (35 minutes) is the place to be, especially during the spring and summer months, when the vertiginous chalk cliffs become a hive of seabird activity, with nesting puffins, gannets and guillemots. The Deep aquarium in Hull (40 minutes) sits on the Humber estuary, looking like a shark with its mouth open. Inside, themed areas include a living reef and a recreated shipwreck. Follow the River Hull inland to the Streetlife Museum, with period settings and vintage vehicles, and on to Wilberforce House, where the famed anti-slavery campaigner was born.
