Pitching field

  • Pub site on the edge of the pretty Yorkshire village of Reedness
  • Award-winning carvery Sundays and pizza night once a week
  • Ouse riverside walks and the Blacktoft Sands reserve very close by
Half measures? Not here. East Yorkshire's Half Moon Inn is fully sorted for location, facilities and award-winning Sunday roasts – how handy that you'll be pitching up right by a pub. Riverside walks along the handsome banks of the Ouse as well as twitching at the Blacktoft Sands RSPB reserve within five minutes' drive are among the many options for when you've worked your way through the pub menu and are seeking something slightly more active (if only to ensure your clothes still fit when your holiday comes to an end). And as local town Goole (10 minutes' drive) is an East Riding port town, it's an easy ride by car – or bike – to the Yorkshire coast for strolling upon the sands. But back to that menu. The pub is open daily for food, from its general menu from Mondays to Saturdays or a full carvery on Sundays (do book a table for this latter, it's rightly popular). A stonebaked pizza night runs on Mondays too and there are free meals for kids at certain times of the week, as well as evening entertainment for grownups awaits including quizzes and live music – fully expect to be spending quite some time in this friendly pub. The site has toilets, internet access and ice pack freezing. Barbecues (off ground only) are allowed, but you'll probably yearn to have meals in the pub every night: no point having a Yorkshire pub holiday in half measures…

What customers say

This campsite boasts a beautiful riverside location with lovely walks, many finding it peaceful and quiet. The adjacent pub is frequently praised for its excellent food, particularly the carvery, and friendly staff. Pitches are generally described as good-sized and level. While many highlight the friendly hosts and clean facilities, some visitors noted issues with dated or less clean toilets and showers, and the coin-operated shower system was a common point of contention. WiFi is limited to the pub area.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Nice friendly and helpful managers, site was great location , lovely and quiet even kids were around caused no trouble . Views from the bank of river and walks along the river were lovely . Pub food was amazing , carvery very well attended with plenty of choice of meat and with homemade Yorkshire puds . Great value at £12 per head . Staff couldn’t do enough worth going again for the carvery .

Disliked Advertised as having WiFi onsite and there was non WiFi only available in the pub . We
Found pitches too close together as you were having to go on neighbours pitch to empty the Elson . Limited toilet facilities for a 20pitch site and as many commented water pressure was very low down to it being pumped in .

Electric grass pitch

Liked We stay in a lovely pitch near the River Ouse i believe. It was very quiet and you could see the ships sailing past at high tide. Our electric hookup was a little short and they kindly leant us an extension. We would definitely visit again.

Electric grass pitch

Liked I chose the site for the location with numerous walks in the area and its rural location. The site was quiet and there were kids around but plenty of space for the to play and kick a ball around away from the vans.

Disliked The toilet block was dirty - ingrained grubbyness, rusty fittings and doors that refued to lock and stay locked. The toilets were difficult to flush away detritus and the water pressure so low that it took ages for the cistern to fill and do a second flush. Showers were right across the pub car park and at a £1 for 2 minutes on top of £34/night for the pitch up, I thought that this was an added cost that wasn't required (I'd like to think I'm not a tight person!). All communication was by text and there wasn't anyone around to query anything with. I eventually saw someone on Sunday morning, just before 11am and I'm guessing they were checking that those that should have left had vacated their pitch.

From the manager: thanks for you crap review. Firstly if you wasn't happy why did you not inform anyone? No you just went away & became a keyboard warrior!! Staff are on site(pub) 90% of the time, Andy is available 24/7 if you bother to contact him. The photo of the toilet floor- its Aluminium checker plate, it is tarnished. the toilet floor is swept & mopped daily, what do you want marble & travertine in a campsite toilet?
I can see why your a 'solo traveller' must be short of friends..........jog on

Electric grass pitch

Liked Quiet site close to the river.

Disliked Toilets and showers were a bit average, water pressure was low on Friday, but ok on Saturday, showers were not draining, and the cubicle was swimming.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Why did you not report the shower drainage issue? We found it the morning after your stay. We found a shower gel label & grass blocking the drain, which was cleared in 30 seconds. Next time you find an issue tell someone...... plank

Local attractions

Set off from the site for strolls along the Ouse, along the riverside path to the villages of Whitgift and Ousefleet, a mile and two miles respectively, or further afield to Adlingfleet (four miles) or Fockerby and Garthorpe (each six miles away, and surely worth an extra dessert at the pub later). You can also opt to hike the three miles to Blacktoft Sands RSPB reserve, for more active hours wandering around the biggest tidal reedbed in England to spot the likes of marsh harriers and bitterns. Pick up the birdwatching challenge sheet from the centre's reception to see how many you can tick off; prizes are awarded for the best sightings. Guaranteed sightings are among the critters of Yorkshire Wildlife Park, 40 minutes' drive away just outside Doncaster: species to see here include lions, tigers, lemurs, baboons and the only polar bears living in an English zoo. Hull is 45 minutes away for shopping and sightseeing.
