Hardstanding pitches next to the Mayfair Centre's bar, coffee shop and golf dome

General

  • Quiet well-maintained touring pitches on the edge of Seaton Carew
  • Five minutes' drive from the beach; 10 minutes from Hartlepool
  • Pet-friendly site next to a café, bar and indoor sports centre

The Mayfair Lodge is a touring site just next to a B&B on the outskirts of the seaside town of Seaton Carew, on the coast of Co Durham.

This handy spot is within the Mayfair Centre complex, which has sports domes for indoor 5-a-side football and golf, plus a coffee shop and a licensed bar that stages events and shows at the weekends. Once you’ve warmed up your golfing arms with an indoor session, you need merely scoot over the road to hit the links of the local golf course.

If neither of the above is your bag, there’s plenty more around to keep all ages happily entertained here: there are miles of golden sandy beach nearby (with rock pools, sand dunes, windsurfing spots, a traditional prom, sheltered swimming areas and plenty of space for flying kites and the like) and the Teesmouth National Nature Reserve – a popular spot for migrating ducks and wading birds – is just up the road too.

It’s also a handy spot for eating out: there are several fab places to eat and drink within a few minutes of the lodge. If you’d rather stay close to home, several places will deliver food and you can tuck in to a top-notch breakfast in the site’s cosy dining area, which serves up proper local produce.

Ideal if you have a friend to visit in Seaton Carew17/09/2020

Short walk to Seaton Carew. If you like fish and chips this could be for you. if you like industry and heavy engineering you can watch Brent North sea oil rigs being dismantled, right next door, and opposite is a whole row of industry. Known locally as the domes, these are large inflatable structures but just one is still standing, the others have been damaged and are lying around with all the other rubbish

    Disliked:

Not really a campsite just a car park with electric. No toilets or showers, if you need these you have to visit the B&B next door and use the facilities in one of the en suite bedrooms. No elsan point just pull up the nearest manhole and use that. No hand washing or sanitising points. At £25 a night far too expensive.

The whole set up. It was a car park which was situated 10ft from a giant white dome with no security. £25.00 for the night is far too much money.

Short walk to a really nice, life guarded beach, with great places to eat (we recommend Fizzy Izzy’s daytime & Marco’s Italian nighttime). The beach won an award in 2020.
    Pub & play area nearby.

    Disliked:

We went in the first week of opening. Planned as a stop off only, as it appeared to be just a parking bay with electric. We could however use a hotel shower (electric - not the best), and there was a water point. We decided to stay a second night because the beach at Seaton Carew is actually really nice, despite being in an industrial area. It’s expensive camping for what you get. £18-£20 would be reasonable.

Very untidy site wouldn’t even have paid a pound to stay here. No where to empty dirty water !!! No bins for our rubbish!!! Totally disgusting with it shouldn’t be advertised as a pitch up site.

    Disliked:

SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHEAPER FOR PARKING AND ELECTRIC 20 POUND IS TOO MUCH OVERNIGHT PARKING AND ELETRIC IS WORTH 10 AND THAT WOULD BE VALUE FOR MONEY. THE HUM FROM THE NIEGHBOUR BLOW UP STADIUM IS GOING ALL NIGHT AND VIEW OF THE LOCAL ZINC FACTOR AND INDUSTRAIL LOOK OF AREA OFF PUTTING FOR ANY LENGTH OF STAY. ELECTRICS LOOKED OVERLOADED NEVER SEEN SO MANY PLUG GOING INTO ONE SOCKET I WOULDNT RETURN CAN GET BETTER FOR SAME MONEY.

Owner very nice. The offer of using a room in Lodge for showering was appreciated. That said there was no other options to shower/toilet otherwise.

    Disliked:

Let's have this right this is a car park, not a well maintained site as described. So felt duped even for £20 a night. Behind the car park is a sports dome, boot camp at 6am! No objection to fitness but should have been made aware. The views to the right are a power plant, slag heaps and wind farms. To left is better with a a walk to beach front. All in all mislead expectations.
