Local attractions

For one of the biggest outdoor spectaculars in England, head for Kynren (10 minutes' drive; open summer only) to learn about the history of County Durham as performed by a cast of hundreds. To discover some of that history in reality, tour Auckland Castle (10 minutes) to see the ornate Throne Room and St Peter’s Chapel, or spend an afternoon in the Bowes Museum (20 minutes) watching the famed Silver Swan automaton in action. To embrace some fresh north-country air, take the scenic hike up to High Force Waterfall (35 minutes’ walk from Bowlees Visitor Centre, itself half an hour’s drive from Country Glamping Co.), or don the hiking boots and strike out into rugged Weardale (20 minutes). If you have kids in tow, try Hamsterley Forest (10 minutes), where rambles lead to a Gruffalo-themed sculpture trail. Historic Durham (half an hour) certainly warrants a day’s exploration of its castle, which was built over many centuries, the medieval cathedral (used as a set in the Harry Potter film franchise), and colourful jewellery in the Oriental Museum. When you’re done with sightseeing, the city’s buzzing, hilly streets are packed with bars and restaurants for a well-earned rest.

The Family camping pod

Liked: The family pod was absolutely beautiful, surprisingly very warm and not as small as I had expected. The bed was so comfortable and the bedding is lovely. The pods have everything you could need .These are very new so I wouldn’t say we didn’t like anything but there was a few things to maybe change or slightly improve on, everything was there but I did expect it to have a travel iron and a hairdryer, but that’s all I could say was missing. We did manage to use the hob while staying but we couldn’t figure out the oven, I think instructions in the welcome manual would be helpful. The rugs in the pod while do look lovely we had to put them away as they were a falls and slip risk not just to the little one but we slipped and tripped as they just slide away from your feet, we did book a family pod and only had 2 towels so would definitely benefit from extra towels. There was no Wi-Fi available but that again could be down to being very new site.We did discover the games room pod which was limited in choice, the vending machine wouldn’t accept and £1coins , the air hockey table will let you play but if you score on the side nearest to the door you don’t get the puc back, also it was very cold in there but we then realised there was a window missing so that’s the reason. I do think an outdoor play area would be great for those with family’s . Other than those few little snags I honestly couldn’t fault the pods or out time there, hence why I didn’t add any of this to the disliked section because it would be unfair to do that when the site is very new and all new business’s have little snags. I would highly recommend and definitely stay again.
