What customers say
This campsite offers stunning views and is conveniently located near Barnard Castle and the A66. Reviewers frequently praise the friendly and helpful owner, Lee, and describe the facilities, including toilets and showers, as generally clean and well-maintained with hot water. Some guests mention traffic noise from the nearby dual carriageway, though many find it bearable or it fades into the background. While some describe the site as basic, others appreciate its value for money and relaxed atmosphere, with plans for ongoing improvements noted by one reviewer. A few guests have reported issues with site tidiness and access, but these are less common.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Disliked Exposed pitches, rabbit droppings.

This site has potential but traffic noise and accessibility are poor.
Non-electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch
Liked Communication with Lee, the owner, was excellent and it was good to see him on site in the evening. Hot water was available for washing up and at the washbasins.
Disliked The campsite was a shock upon arrival. Its proximity to the very busy A66 was a genuine surprise. The site resembles a French aire but demands far more than one of these would cost. Terrain is very uneven making access to the washing and toilet facilities a challenge and children’s play equipment has been disassembled and dumped in a corner where the pitches are located. We paid handsomely for our two dogs but there are no dog facilities. The expected walk into the town was impossible as the far stile had barbed wire running through it preventing access by dogs.

From the manager: Hi,I really appreciate the information about the barbed wire restriction for your dogs this is entirely new to me. If you could please let me know if this is on our site or adjacent fields id appreciate it
The dismantled play area is to be reconditioned for use of our guests next year. We appreciate that corner is not the most aesthetically pleasing but we hope the view the other way makes up for it.
We do appreciate the constructive nature of your post - the close proximity to the a66 isn't something we can control but hopefully with more plantation it will be better next year. We try to improve and impress as the years go on
Thanks again for your feedback

Having stayed at 10 sites over 10 days this was the worst.
Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked A good view.
Disliked I should have read the reviews first but it was a late booking.
It's ideal if you like a cold shower and with only one shower on site.
The 'campsite' is 40 feet away from the A66! A major trunk road. I'd have been better in the central reservation of a motorway.
Constant road noise all night long.
Very hard and rough ground.
Wild camping would have provided more.
Not my idea of a good site 😒

Would definitely recommend but would bring some earplugs next time!
Non-electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch
Liked Nice little site with good facilities and a spectacular view. Being able to book for 1 night only is great as most sites have a minimum of 2 nights. Good comms from Lee.
Disliked Noise from the traffic on the A66. Obviously this can't be helped but makes sleep difficult when camping in a tent as the noise keeps going all through the night.

Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Great for a small cost effective camping trip. Basic but had everything we needed. Beautiful views. Very clean and stocked. Easily accessible.
Disliked Maybe an extra shower would be helpful.
A bit noisy from the A66 but not enough to put me off.

Nice little site at a good price.
