  • Peaceful two-acre field a 10-minute walk from Stanton village, Suffolk
  • Bury St Edmunds 20 minutes’ drive; Lowestoft beach one hour
  • Dogs welcome; excellent stargazing; a five-minute drive from a winery
Bromptons Farm, on the edge of the village of Stanton (a 10-minute walk), is a top spot for a peaceful Suffolk holiday. Staying here puts you within easy driving distance of historic towns like Bury St Edmunds (20 minutes’ drive) and Stowmarket (25 minutes), as well as woodland trails like those found in Thetford Forest (25 minutes). The region’s coast is a little farther, with beaches such as Aldeburgh (pebbly) and Lowestoft (sandy) about one hour’s drive away. The site has a two-acre meadow where you can set up freely – there’s no being slave to marked bays here. There’s heaps of room for the kids to run around, and the family dog will almost certainly wag its tail in excitement at the prospect of sniffing every little corner of this great big field. A toilet/shower block, charging facilities and recycling points sweeten the experience further. Hiking (and wildlife-viewing) highlights in the vicinity include the Knettishall Heath Nature Reserve (15 minutes), with grazing wild ponies; and the Norfolk Wildlife Trust - East Wretham Heath Nature Reserve (25 minutes), where you might spot wading birds around the lakes, plus stoats and roe deer. If you need to stock up on grillables, Stanton has a couple of convenience stores, as well as a fish and chips shop for those who don’t fancy tending to hot coals all evening. You can also check out the restaurant at Wyken Vineyards or hit the pubs in Bardwell (both five minutes). After dinner, stretch out on the grass and take in the spectacle of the night sky – with such low light pollution here, stargazing is on a different level.

What customers say

A new, peaceful campsite offering spacious, level pitches with excellent stargazing opportunities and beautiful countryside views. Guests praised the friendly and helpful hosts, good value for money, and freedom to choose pitches. While the site is a work in progress with some unfinished facilities, these are generally kept clean. Some minor issues were noted, including occasional rubbish and ongoing renovations.

Meadow non-electric grass pitch

Liked I recieved an informative text in the morning before I arrived. When I did arrive I was greeted by a really nice lady, Ellie, she was super helpful. The site is quite new so there's some things being worked on which is quite clear but the stuff they have done so far really shows some thought and care has gone into it. Brendan came round and was really sweet, told us all about the area, walks, places to eat and visit.

The site itself is just so peaceful, the stargazing and views are amazing. This place has a real charm! Didn't want to leave and can't wait to come back again

Meadow non-electric grass pitch

Liked Quiet location. Level site with views out into the surrounding countryside. Great night sky.
Free choice of where to pitch.
Steady hot water in the shower.
Great price at £15 for the night NEHU.
Ideal as one night stopover.

Disliked Scruffy encampment feel provided by the (permanent?) caravans sited to the field entrance - many full black bin liners and empty bottles.
Mould in the corner of the only shower, (no window or extractor fan).
No option for privacy if you wanted to use the either of the unisex wash hand basins.
One basin not plumbed in and internal fit out to toilet/shower block yet to be completed.
Disappointed that a dog owner had not picked up previously.

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to leave us feedback. We just wanted to reassure you that the rubbish and bottles you noticed were in one corner after a large event, and unfortunately a mix-up with bin collections meant it wasn’t cleared as quickly as usual.

As you mentioned, our site is still quite new and we’re very open about the fact it’s a work in progress. We’re always improving and growing, and that’s part of the journey we invite our guests to share with us.

It’s a shame you wouldn’t stay again, as you might miss out on seeing the site develop into its full potential. That said, we do appreciate you giving us a try and wish you happy travels on your next adventures.

From the manager: Hi Kelly, thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review – and for your kind offer to pick something up from the shop for me (Ellie) , that was honestly one of the sweetest things, it made my day! 🥰

We are a brand new site, opened May 2025, Everything here is a mix of heart and soul – Brendan (the owner) brings the heart, the team brings the soul, and between us it all somehow works out (with the odd role-swap for fun) 😊.
but we're all glad you enjoyed your stay, especially the hot showers and the farmers market.

We might have fallen just shy of a 10 this round (even with a nothing disliked), but we’re all about making it a 10/10 when you come back.. We look forward to seeing you again 🚐🌿

Meadow non-electric grass pitch

Liked Owners very friendly, approachable and helpful.
Space was large, quiet and amenities working.
owls sing to you in the night.

Disliked It's not so much a dislike as we will stay again... hook up was miles away, we only needed it as battery died on us, but they could be dotted around better (maybe work in progress). We could have moved closer to one, but it was right across the field.

Meadow non-electric grass pitch

Liked Absolutely loved the quietness of the area (NO SEAGULLS 🥳)

It also has an airfield with military planes somewhere relatively near and you can occasionally see them fly overhead.

Its great that it has its own wash up area, toilet and shower so you don't need to worry about ANY dirtiness.

Such a friendly bunch of people and would definitely recommend visiting, me and my girlfriend with be revisiting here again ... but with a bigger tent 😅

Disliked That we didn't stay longer 😁

Meadow non-electric grass pitch

Liked My visit started with a friendly welcome text with directions and tips to find the entrance along with Brendan saying he may be offsite but just open the gate and choose a spot in the meadow that suited.

As I was mostly using the site as a base to cycle and follow Tour of Britain race it was perfect for me; quiet, in the centre of the areas I wanted to visit and in easy reach of both quiet lanes to ride and good roads to get longer distances.

Okay the toilet block is currently small but it is exceptional well maintained and seemed almost constantly clean - no mean feat during a rainy wet week!

Local attractions

The steam-engine age is alive and well at Bressingham Steam Museum & Gardens (20 minutes), where you might take a ride on a narrow-gauge railway and climb aboard vintage engines. The ‘Dad’s Army’ displays ought to appeal to nostalgic TV buffs, while green-fingered visitors should check out the Japanese garden and ornamental ponds in the 17-acre gardens. An English Heritage property, the 12th-century Thetford Priory (20 minutes) was closed by order of Henry VIII in 1540. Its ruins now spread over a large area just north of the River Ouse. Thetford also has the Dad’s Army Museum and the Thetford Castle Mound, said to be Britain’s tallest medieval earthwork. Norfolk airfields witnessed plenty of action during World War II. Military museums in the area include the 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum (25 minutes), housed in a former control tower; and the Red Feather Club 95th Bomb Group Museum (half an hour), which tells the story of a US Air Force team.
