Whether you wish to explore Norfolk’s countryside or famed beaches, staying at West Runton Camping and Caravanning Club Site puts you in a pretty sweet spot. This site, atop a lushly wooded hill, sits within the National Trust-owned West Runton & Beeston Regis Heath, a splendid area of diverse landscapes, including woodland, heath and coastline. It's also only about a mile from West Runton (less than five minutes’ drive), where you can stock up on goods for the barbecue, check out a local pub or spend a day at the seaside. West Runton beach stretches below plant-covered sandstone cliffs. In 1990, the skeleton of a huge mammoth was discovered here, and while you’re unlikely to unearth anything on that scale, you might well spot the occasional ancient marine fossil. For some light activity, climb nearby Beacon Hill (five minutes), Norfolk’s highest point; stroll along the breezy promenades in Cromer (five minutes) or Sheringham (10 minutes); or head to the Norfolk Coast National Landscape (45 minutes) for clifftop trails and windswept seafront walks. On site, spacious pitches and excellent amenities (among them a pristinely maintained toilet/bathroom block with dedicated spaces for disabled guests and a parent-and-baby room, plus a launderette and a washing-up area) make the site popular with families – with or without dogs. Other facilities include a playground and a food shop. This site is managed by the Camping and Caravanning Club and open to both members and non-members; members benefit from a reduced rate so please make sure you've chosen the correct membership option on your booking.

What customers say

This is a well-run campsite in a lovely, convenient location for exploring the North Norfolk coast, with friendly and helpful staff. Visitors praised the clean and well-maintained toilet and shower facilities, with plenty of hot water. While the shop is noted as being limited, most found it a minor quibble. Some guests mentioned dated bathroom blocks but confirmed they were always clean. The lack of WiFi was appreciated by some for enabling a digital detox, though others noted it was limited across the site.

Electric gravel pitch

Liked Great location. Scenic walks from the site to Cromer and Sheringham. Didn’t use the car once during our stay.

Disliked Inconsiderate dog-owners walking their dogs on site and stopping to let them go to the toilet on other people’s pitches. Would benefit from some reminder signs or a designated dog-walking area.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely site with excellent amenities. 2 large toilet/shower/washing up blocks which are cleaned regularly (and at different times of the day). The site has lovely walks which can be accessed directly from the site. Easy walk down to West Runton which has shops, bus and train connections as well as an excellent pub and a fabulous tea rooms/cafe/B&B. Staff are polite and friendly and always there to help.

Disliked Nothing.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely campsite perfectly situated for exploring the north Norfolk coast. Choice of pitches when we arrived with the site manager showing us a couple of options to choose from. Caters well for all ages. Grounds well kept, friendly site staff and clean bathrooms/toilets etc. would love to come back.

Disliked Nothing really.
If I was being really picky, I would say the bathroom blocks were a bit dated but they were always clean and tidy and there were plenty of showers, toilets, washbasins for everyone. Always hot water whatever time of day.
No WiFi - it was nice to switch off but may not be to everyone’s taste.

Local attractions

Cromer (five minutes’ drive) has a hilltop lighthouse behind which stretches a golf club with spectacular coastal views. The Pavilion Theatre at the end of the pier has a lively programme of music tributes and DJ sessions. Amazona Zoo (just out of town) is home to animals from the jungles of South America, including pumas, jaguars, tapirs and anacondas. National Trust properties in the vicinity include Sheringham Park and Felbrigg Hall, Gardens & Estate (both 10 minutes). The former is renowned for its colourful collections of rhododendrons and azaleas, plus resident deer and spectacular coastal views. Felbrigg Hall is an elegant country house from the 17th century with a walled garden and oak woods. Blakeney Point (half an hour) is the spot to see large colonies of common and grey seals. Indeed, the area is one of Britain’s main seal nurseries, with as many as 4,000 pups being born there every year. A boat trip is an excellent way to take in the natural landscape and spot the newborns.
