  • Simple Cambridgeshire farm campsite 15 minutes’ drive from Royston
  • Imperial War Museum Duxford and Cambridge both half an hour’s drive
  • Peaceful grass pitches with hot showers available; livestock on site
Prefer somewhere off the beaten track? The camping field at Eastgate Farm may only be 15 minutes’ drive from Royston and half an hour from Cambridge, but both places seem far, far away from this peaceful spot. Just a handful of level grass pitches are available on the small farm site, with no-frills facilities stretching to a shower and toilet, washing-up sink, water fill-up and waste disposal. Barbecues are permitted on the camping field (you’ll need to bring all the gear with you), and you can stock up on groceries in the supermarket at Royston. If you’d rather have a complete break from cooking, there are several pubs within 10 minutes’ drive, or you could make a night of it in Cambridge restaurants. A few practicalities now: as this is a rural working farm with livestock, please expect the sights, sounds and smells of a farm. The camping field is off-grid, so remember torches for night-time meanderings, and while the site is level and flat, it can be wet in early winter.

What customers say

This peaceful, rural campsite offers generous, flat pitches with lovely countryside and sheep views. Guests appreciated the friendly owners, available fire pits, and delicious farm produce. While facilities are basic, they are generally clean and functional, with some guests suggesting improvements. Noise from a nearby road was noted by some, as were wasps during warmer months.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Small site so not too much noise. Owner was very nice and welcoming. Good location for Royston and it was lovely to sit and watch the sheep in the neighbouring field.

Some toys onsite and a small swing set for the kids to play with were a welcome surprise

Lovely sausages, eggs and bacon from the farm for breakfast

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked We liked the fact it was a working farm and the scenery around the area was beautiful & peaceful and reasonably priced for summertime, also it wasn’t a large campsite just bigger enough for a number of vans.

Disliked There was nothing we disliked about this campsite.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked The space of the pitches. The flat ground. Well tendered grass etc. looking out into the sheep. The peace and quiet. The friendly farmer. The facilities (inc hot water).

Disliked If you have a problem with ‘basic’ facilities then look elsewhere!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked - Large pitches so we didn't feel crammed in
- Firepits available to borrow were great
- Clean toilets and shower
- Sausages and eggs for sale absolutely delicious
- Lovely view of the field next door
- fab little slide/swing, a little ride on tractor and car - great for our young kids
- Easy to find and really well kept
- level pitches
- friendly owners

Disliked Both things we disliked were not the owners fault at all and just preference - the closest shops are around 15mins drive away - bit of a pain but also quite nice to be remote in the middle of the countryside so that's a pro as well really.

The other was the wasps - again unavoidable in a countryside setting, I would have just taken some sort of repellent if I'd known, but once we'd lit a fire they went away quite quickly.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked The site is small but the pitches are large, lots of room for a gazebo that we shared with the other half of our group.
Simple swing and slide on site as well as a shed with extra games and ride on car for children to use.
Two clean toilets and a great shower
Fire pits for use which really made our last night even better.
Cute sheep in the next field, little owls flying over head at night.
Lovely site owner, fresh produce available.

Disliked Nothing
