  • Five-acre, wild-ish campsite on a family farm in the Teme Valley
  • A 20-minute drive from Great Malvern, Worcester and the M5
  • Hiking routes nearby; a five-minute walk to a shop, pub and café
If a peaceful time walking in the Malvern Hills has long been on your wishlist, make your way to Folly Farm, a five-acre site on a family farm. ‘Wild-ish’ is what the family have dubbed their destination – to sum up, the peaceful field is in a rural setting away from the traffic of the main roads, down a bunch of country lanes and portable toilet access is the only thing in the way of facilities. What more could you need in the gorgeous Teme Valley? Here, you’ll wake up to views of the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, before setting off for strolls on the surrounding footpaths and hiking routes. But first, you might want to pick up some bits and pieces for a picnic on the go. Handily, Folly Farm is based just outside of the village of Alfrick, so a brief five-minute walk will get you to a community shop selling local produce. There’s also a café for your morning caffeine dose and a local pub-restaurant that dishes out light meals to keep your energy at full battery, Peaceful it may be here, but that doesn’t mean that action isn’t within your reach. Folly Farm is a 20-minute drive from the M5, M50, Worcester and Great Malvern. That means walks through wildflower meadows and in the hills, as well as investigating crypts and tombs in the medieval Worcester cathedral could be on the itinerary.

Local attractions

When you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you might want to look into paragliding in the Malverns. The hills are suited to all sorts of physical endeavours, whether it’s your classic hiking or mountain biking and horse riding too. If you’re after even more hiking, the Bromyard Downs (20 minutes' drive) has routes through ancient woods and old cattle drovers’ routes. City sightseeing is also on the cards – there’s the Mappa Mundi medieval map housed in Hereford (40 minutes) cathedral to see, as well as more medieval sites around Worcester (20 minutes). In Ross-on-Wye (50 minutes), you might want to try your hand (or legs, and arms, rather) at watersports on the river Wye. As for other historical sights to keep up your streak following Hereford and Worcester, the National Trust’s Croome (half an hour) and the National Trust’s Brockhampton (10 minutes) are some historical places where you’ll be able to pretend like you’re living in olden’ days. Great Witley Church (25 minutes) is another fine historical structure with unique Baroque architecture and an oil canvas ceiling.
