  • Pop-up camping field on a West Midlands smallholding
  • Drayton Manor Resort 15 minutes’ drive; Birmingham NEC 20 minutes
  • Dog-friendly pitches with access to rural hikes; pubs 20 minutes’ walk
Looking for a chilled place to hunker down in the West Midlands? Woodland Forge Campsite – half an hour’s drive from Birmingham and as rural as could be – is one such relaxed spot. A simple pop-up site on a family smallholding, there are no fixed pitches on the level, partially shaded camping field, and there’s heaps of open space to choose from. Please note at this juncture that Woodland Forge is an off-grid, back-to basics site with no facilities except fresh water. All rubbish must be taken home with you. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on leads at all times, due to the presence of livestock on the farm. When your canine chums need exercising, you can access country walks directly from the camping field. If you fancy eating out, there are several good country pubs nearby (three within 20 minutes’ walking distance), and don’t worry if you’ve forgotten anything, as there is a farm shop and camping store close by (both five minutes’ drive) too. Rather stick to self-catering? Barbecues and campfires are allowed on site, but must be raised off the ground; you can rent firepits from the owners. There’s a small pond and stream on one side of the camping field, so please make sure your children are supervised at all times.

Local attractions

When you’re keen for some outdoor activity, you can try a selection of watersports at Kingsbury Water Park (15 minutes’ drive), or have a scenic stroll around the lakes. It’s no problem if you hit the odd rainy day (always possible in the UK), as you can decamp to SnowDome in Tamworth (25 minutes) and practise your parallel turns under cover. If the kids find out that Drayton Manor Resort is only 15 minutes’ drive away, you’ll have no peace until you’re all in the car and heading for a day of water rides and rollercoasters. Younger offspring will probably be equally happy with a trip around Ash End House Children’s Farm (also 15 minutes) and the chance of tractor rides and donkeys to pat. Another family-friendly option is National SEA LIFE Centre Birmingham (40 minutes), where you can all watch penguins splashing in their pools and sharks circling their aquarium. Camping at Woodland Forge also puts you close to major events, rock concerts and trade shows at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (20 minutes).

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked So very peaceful, owners were very pleasant , and helpful, as caravan had own amenities, no on site facilities didn't bother us one bit. Was a compost toilet on site , and a cute little cabin that was available to rent out.

Will be a return visit , only a few miles drive to Coleshill Village ( Supermarket and Fish and chip shop etc) Thanks Becky and Anthony for a lovely , well needed escape to the Country!

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked Access to water and electricity, small attractions for children, few animals, not far from the campsite

Disliked No shower, toilets as indicated in the post, no place to clean portable toilets, access to the campsite through gravel, bricks, etc., drive through 3 manually opened gates, no places for walks or other attractions

From the manager: Hi I am sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay due to the lack of facilities, however we do state on our advert and when I made contact with you personally we are a back to basic site with no facilities except fresh water.
There are also a number of footpaths that lead directly off our land which are labelled and I would have been more than happy to show you.
Regards
Becky

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked Peaceful site,
Becky was really friendly. Lovely site with plenty of animals.

Pitch where you like
Nice views. Even got to see the Aurora !

The fact it has no facilities is always a reason to book for us as the less the better!

No phone signal (vodaphone) but love an excuse to not be contacted!!!

Was 10 mile from home but felt like a million miles away!

Easy to find and it was quiet…

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Absolutely everything!! Took our own toilet and washing up/ washing kit. Fantastic. Quiet, peaceful and the hosts are a lovely family. They are in the process of producing a wonderful sleeping cabin and they have a nice woodland lodge on site at low low cost on Airbnb!
Only a pop up so hoping they will go full time in the future.

Disliked Having to leave and go home😔

We could have stayed forever if we had the money!!

Nice pleasant site.
