What customers say
This well-maintained site is praised for its spacious pitches, lovely lake views, and excellent, clean toilet and shower facilities. It is particularly popular with anglers, offering numerous fishing lakes. Guests enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, friendly staff, and convenient on-site shop and cafe. While some mention road noise from the nearby M69 and occasional issues with facility cleanliness or maintenance, many found it to be good value and a relaxing place to stay, with plans to return.

Electric grass pitch
Liked The environment is great and the lake is beautiful. The men's restroom was clean, though my wife noticed a bad smell in the women's restroom. Overall, it is still a pleasant place, and it was really fun seeing so many geese walking around!
Disliked There is no Wi-Fi here. Also, there is a lot of animal poop around the campsite, and I am not sure if it is from dogs or geese.

From the manager: Hi thanks for your review!
I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay and the beautiful surroundings of Makins. We do get a lot of geese with so much water around and so it was the geese I'm afraid.
We hope you come back to visit us again!

Fine. Little dirty. But alright.
Electric hardstanding touring pitch
Liked Nice place, quiet with lovely lake walk. Good for the dog, fairly priced and very relaxing time was had. Water available from every pitch.
Disliked Bit scabby and unkempt around the edges. The toilets and showers were absolutely rotten and I had to clean them before I could use them. There were signs asking people to be respectful and clean up after themselves but these were just ignored. I was particularly grossed out that someone would wash their dog in there and leave disgusting muddly law prints all over the floor. There was even a mop and squidgy provided in the shower too . People are gross sometimes, not the sites fault of course, but as a guest I really shouldn't be cleaning up mud from other guests hounds. Perhaps someone employed to check and clean in there wouldn't go amiss. Even once a day. Would take about fifteen minutes.

From the manager: Hi John,
We pride ourselves on keeping a tidy a site. The toilet block is cleaned every morning and then again around midday and in the afternoon and last thing. We're a relatively small site and can't afford to have a full time cleaner just for the campsite but I certainly acknowledge your point about some guests ignoring the signs about leaving them clean and tidy for the next guest. I'm also very sorry that someone decided to wash their dog in the shower... not acceptable!
