Hardstanding touring pitch

  • Fully serviced pitches with access to paid fishing lakes
  • Around 30 minutes’ drive from Warwick, Birmingham and Leicester
  • Café, wheelchair accessible facilities, parent and baby washroom
Would waking up and walking just a few feet for a spot of fishing be something of a holiday win for you? And how about finding that around 30 minutes by car from Warwick, Birmingham and Leicester? At Makins Lakes, in the village of Bramcote and 10 minutes’ drive from the Warwickshire town of Nuneaton, your pitch won’t just be close to a peaceful peg, you’ll also have a long list of Heart of England holiday highlights close by. Of course, the lakes on site aren’t just for the enjoyment of anglers. Being by the water brings a peaceful feel to all the pitches. There are views over the Warwickshire countryside too, but this isn’t a middle-of-nowhere kind of place. Each pitch is hooked up with electric and water access points. The shower and toilet block have accessible areas for disabled guests and there’s also a family-friendly parent and baby washroom. There’s an on-site café and bait shop and if you can’t bear to leave the lakeside, they’ll even deliver food out to you so you need not stop fishing all day. When you’re ready to rest your rod for a bit, it’s a 25-minute drive to catch a bit of culture in Coventry (UK City of Culture 2021) or 40 minutes to Stratford-upon-Avon, the must-see town for all things Shakespeare.

What customers say

This campsite offers spacious pitches and beautiful lake views. Facilities are generally praised for being clean, warm, and modern, particularly the showers. Staff are frequently described as friendly and helpful. While the site is primarily for fishing, it's also enjoyed for its peaceful atmosphere and walks. Some visitors note noise from the nearby motorway and occasional issues with facility cleanliness, particularly in the toilets, which management states is being addressed. Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely spacious pitches and showers. Well presented entrance and shop, sadly didn’t get a chance to try the cafe but looked good from the walk past.

Disliked Bathrooms were a bit messy, no toilet brushes for the previous occupant to clean marks left in the bowl. Also the bathrooms were left a bit smelly. Dog friendly but cannot walk around the lakes and no dog friendly areas marked out.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Peaceful quiet site with plenty of space. Toilet and shower block heated. No traffic noise

Disliked Postcode provided when on SatNav only directs to M69. Have to input village and street name. Problems with the electric hook up as the designated box wasn’t working, trip switch very flaccid and as I arrived after 4pm unable to get help. Mobile number provided for Out of Hours came back as incorrect. Had to use another hook up point and even had to check that later that night

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely quiet and clean

Disliked Hookup points are a little too far around 15m especially when the grass is wet and muddy. Potholes could do with filling in

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Easy site to book, stayed last weekend and agin this weekend. Close shops, great fishing. Loads of room for dog on 20m lead outside van. Toilets/showers clean, washing up area nice and clean and well lit. You are given a gate code so no probs after the 4pm deadline

Disliked They could do with sorting some pot holes out, it’s not really a dislike but to be mentioned.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Great size pitch, toilets realky clean and warm in the block, there were only 2 showers (female) one was broken however the one that worked was lovely rain fall shower head. Great views of the lakes. Nice outdoor washing up area under cover.

Disliked Needs a bench/seating area in the shower room. Grass was very boggy take your wellies. Some of the electric points are broken it was very hit and miss. Could really do with an electric point upgrade and more of them.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The pitches were indeed spacious. I can’t say anything much about walks etc as suggested by the app because the site was pretty boggy due to the volume of rain. I stayed here during my first week at a new job & as the NEC show was on, there wasn’t much else available with power & hard standing & showers in the area.

Disliked Potholes - Wow they were a lot on the site roads. Admittedly there’s potholes everywhere at the moment but the site had a lot of them in a small area making the drive very bumpy.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Close to water if I wanted to fish, toilet/showers close to most hard standing pitches. They previous people that have left bad reviews saying electric posts are damaged I didn’t see any of that.

Makins sent me a welcome txt message with gate code, yep I didn’t see anyone but I didn’t need to! It was all there

Disliked Toilets are in good condition but could do with a more regular clean. There was muddy sinks but bear in mind this is a well known fishing destination, anglers probably nip up for a cheeky wash and …. You know what! It’s to be expected but o do think more often wc inspections or code locks added to the doors for camping only.

Local attractions

If you’re in the mood for a quiet picnic or woodland stroll, Coombe Abbey Country Park (15 minutes’ drive) is a 500-acre parkland made for whiling away a day outdoors. There’s also a play area, zip lining and climbing forest if the family’s up for an active day. Or you could always try out the angling here too if your break really is all about fishing. Entertaining the kids shouldn’t be too tricky around these parts either. Immerse yourself fully in the medieval world of dungeons, knights and princesses, jousting and falconry with a visit to Warwick Castle (35 minutes). Or scream if you wanna go faster at Drayton Manor Theme Park, home to rollercoasters, Thomas Land and a 15-acre zoo. Animal antics of all kinds are also order of the day at Twycross Zoo (30 minutes).
