If peace, quiet and good views are among your holiday must-haves, make your way to Warwickshire Wild Camping. This scenic site is tucked away on a peaceful and remote hilltop in Compton Verney, overlooking hills, lakes and countryside in the south Warwickshire countryside, Take a look around and you’ll note that you can see Compton Verney Art Gallery and Park from here. This lovely attraction is home to an 18th-century mansion and landscaped gardens designed by none other than Capability Brown… and it’s all about a 25-minute walk from the site if you’d like to take a closer look. For other days out, you can reach the likes of Warwick Castle, Stratford-upon-Avon and Royal Leamington Spa with a drive of 20 minutes or so. This is a fairly remote location, but it’s not completely cut off from amenities – there are several pubs within a few minutes’ drive and 10 minutes should get you to shops, supermarkets and restaurants in local towns. Back on site, you’ll have access to a good collection of facilities including a covered communal area with fridge-freezers, a microwave, When it's time to cook, head to the covered communal area which has fridge-freezers, a microwave, a kettle, tables and chairs and games. The running water is suitable for drinking and cooking. There are also firepits on site, as well as bathrooms with accessible facilities.

What customers say

This campsite offers a beautiful, peaceful rural escape with stunning views and surrounding woodland. Guests consistently praise the helpfulness and friendliness of host Andy, and the comfort and attractive decoration of the bell tents, which are well-spaced. Communal facilities, including a fridge, freezer, kettle, and microwave, are appreciated. While some early reviews noted a lack of showers, these have since been added and are described as clean and good. Portaloos are generally clean, though a few guests mentioned a smell. Some minor issues raised include the site address for navigation, and occasional noise from other campers or a distant generator. The location is ideal for visiting local attractions.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Quiet, beautiful setting, really close to Compton verney, large shared marquee is a great touch, especially for wet weather. Toilets and showers were very clean and well serviced. Water was hot

Disliked Honestly, only slightly annoying thing was a local farmer had a bonfire somewhere nearby on our last morning but that's hardly the campsites fault. Shower heads are a little low for tall people but still plenty of room to stand in the cubical.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The beautiful site. Pleanty of space. Excellent facilities. Toilets. Showers. Fridge. Games. Washing up station. Communal area. The locality to Compton Verney gallery.

Disliked The playing of loud electronic music until nearly midnight by other campers. Such a beautiful campsriit would be good if there were rules about playing music.

From the manager: Hi Alison,

Great to of met you at the weekend. I spoke with the mentioned campers several times about respecting other campers and keeping the music at reasonable levels. We have rules in place, quiet hours between 11pm - 7am and I communicated this with them.

I am sorry that one group of campers spoiled your experience with us. Majority of guests that stay with us have more respect for other campers but their is always one!!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Lovely campsite only 3 pitches for your own tent. Perfect for us. Six glamping tents. Porta loos clean. Kitchen set up great. Once we worked out the way of getting running water.
Andy pleasant and helpful. It would be useful to have a list of local supermarket and good pubs nearby and places to visit. We went to NT Hidcot Gardens and Kissgate gardens nearby. Motor museum etc. The page does not have to be long.

Disliked Would have liked a cold water tap. To get water from.
Showers not great but I can see in the middle of the field not easy.

From the manager: Hi,

Thank you for your comments. I have taken on board what you said and I will compose a list of shops and pubs in the local area for future guests and hopefully yourself too.

We do have cold water tap from the mains as was explained in the welcome video I sent you. I am sorry you must of missed this vital piece of information. I am always available on the phone for any queries regarding site amenities.

We hope to see you again in the future.

Kind regards
Andy

Liked Lovely campsite situated next to Compton Verney. A big gazebo on the site with fridges, teas and coffees, microwave and anything you would need. With a nice lake at the bottom of the field and a woods next door you can explore.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The views and location.
Easy to get to local highlights.
Decent walk in nature around camp.
The shower was ready for use, was boiling at first but reporting to the owner quick to amend. Good water pressure.
Very friendly service.
The area is adequately quiet, even though there is a huge sheep farm close by.

Disliked State of portaloo in general. Unsure of better alternatives to suggest.
Medium difficulty to find the campsite. Once found, easy to travel to.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Beautiful, quiet site, toilet facilities were probably the cleanest we've come across when camping! Andy was lovely and very helpful with recommending things to do. Plenty of space between pitches, communal area had lots of games for the kids and fridge facilities. Some lovely walks around and the woods are beautiful. We'll be back before the summer is out!

Disliked Only downside is lack of showers but these are coming soon!

Local attractions

As Compton Verney Art Gallery and Park is so close, you’ll surely want to get down there for a look around. And it’s not the only grand historic building nearby to visit – you may also like to take in National Trust – Hidcote (25 minutes’ drive), with its Arts and Crafts-style garden, or the Indian palace at Sezincote (half an hour). A day out at Warwick Castle (20 minutes) is a good option too – it’s got heaps of attractions, activities and shows for the kids as well as plenty of interest for grownups. Meanwhile, those with an eye for a nice vehicle or two are likely to find hours of entertainment among the 400 or so classic cars at the British Motor Museum (15 minutes). Rural peace may have been your primary reason for a stay here, but it’s worth considering a bit of town time too, especially if you set off to find all the Shakespeare attractions of Stratford-upon-Avon or visit Royal Leamington Spa to see its Regency architecture, the Royal Pump Rooms and the Japanese gardens. Both are 20 minutes away by car.
