  • Country campsite in the peaceful grounds of a Warwickshire pub
  • By the river Avon in Barton; Bidford-on-Avon 10 minutes walk
  • Real ales and a traditional pub menu; direct access to quiet footpaths
Find your happy place at Camping at The Cottage of Content, a rural campsite in the grounds of a Warwickshire pub on the peaceful banks of the river Avon. Set in the small village of Barton, a mile to the south of the amenities of Bidford-on-Avon, this family-friendly spot is well placed for guests looking to explore the Cotswolds National Landscape and Stratford-upon-Avon. Set in quiet green grounds a short stroll from the water's edge, the pitches here have lots of handy facilities including a launderette, a washing-up area, a wifi service, chemical disposal points and modern showers and toilets. Staying in the grounds of a pub also brings an added bonus, of course – namely easy access to food and drinks. And this particular pub is well set up for such things, with a cosy bar serving real ales, a spacious beer garden and a dining area serving up traditional pub meals. Dogs are welcome to join you, as are kids – there’s a play area outside, along with a bouncy castle throughout the summer. Inside, a pool table provides space for a bit of gentle competition. This riverside location is a good one for fishing and riverside walks – to reach the larger village of Bidford-on-Avon, just take the footpath opposite the site for a 10-minute walk along the river. After crossing the old stone bridge you'll have access to more dining options, convenience stores and a small but well-stocked supermarket (a handy place for supplies if you’ve decided to do a barbecue back at base).

What customers say

This campsite is praised for its lovely village location, proximity to a pub with good food, and friendly atmosphere. Visitors appreciate the clean toilets, spacious pitches with water and electric hook-up, and dog-friendly environment. Recent upgrades include an extra set of toilets and an updated shower block. However, some guests noted issues with limited toilet and shower facilities, particularly when the pub is closed, and occasional noise from other campers. Some pitches were also considered small.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Great dog walking and lovely location. Decent showers.

Disliked Pitches were a bit small and on top of each other and there were some very noisy campers. Also it advertised a children's play area, but there was not one there any more.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Very handy being in the garden of a pub basically. Lovely quiet village in the middle of nowhere 10 min walk to corner shop and chippy. Food at the Cottage of content is stunning from what I seen and heard (although never tried it). Camping toilets were spotless, super clean! Shower takes a back to get right (set to eco if you don’t want to jump in and out every two seconds). Water emptying/septic tanks provided. Fire pits for hire although we brought our own, BBQ’s allowed too. Lots of friendly people about and dog friendly. Free WiFi which had decent signal.

Disliked As I was in a tent our pitch wasn’t the best as it was all over the place due to previous caravans caving in the ground. Manager had all other pitches fully booked and explained that pitches are automatically allocated. I did was understanding that it’s not his fault, pitch up allocate them.
There were some noisy drunk people at 2am and a couple having a domestic on the second night which ruined our sleep but not the fault of the owners. There was no entertainment on there on the Thursday or Friday which I found disappointing. I left to go home a day early (on the Saturday) because I found it very boring but if you want a relaxing peaceful break away where you can have a drink and take a few steps to your tent/caravan I’m sure it would be good but with no entertainment and nothing in the area that don’t require a 20 minute drive I just got bored to be honest. It would be better if the pub opened before 12 for breakfast and when asked for a hot drink in the afternoon the barman said they are not doing hot drinks which was disappointing for a campsite.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked The campsite has a friendly atmosphere and has fire pits available. I was using it as a base for the Midlands Air Festival, so didn't get a chance to visit the pub.

Disliked The pitches are quite small but this is made clear when booking. Only having a compact caravan, there was plenty of space, but you'll definitely want one of the larger pitches larger vehicles. The showers and toilets were clean but basic.
It also would have been nice for the pubs WiFi too extend to the campsite, as the phone reception (Vodafone/Three) is very poor there.

Liked Grass was cut well. Site was clean. Landlord and Landlady were friendly. Didn't use onsite amenities so don't know about toilets, showers or pub grub.

Disliked Corner pitch 16 felt intruded by people cutting through to woodland path. Would have liked bays to be clearly marked out.
