If you want to be way off the well-trodden track in Staffordshire, then make a beeline for Cleat Hill Farm Caravan Site, just outside the hamlet of Haunton and 20 minutes’ drive from Tamworth. Why? Because it’s accessed down a three-mile gated lane, because it’s small with just a handful of pitches and because it’s a rural retreat with wildlife and a myriad of birds.
Despite its remote location, there’s great access off the M42 to this simple and quiet 1.5-acre site with hardstanding pitches, electric hook-ups, an Elsan point and drinking water taps. Horses graze nearby, and there is a footpath to Clifton Campville (25 minutes’ walk), which has a pub with great food. There’s also an Indian restaurant and takeaway in No Man’s Heath (10 minutes’ drive).
A few words of warning: The site is on a working farm and sometimes tractors work in the fields. There may be farmyard smells and the camping field is not easy to mow after rain, so the grass can sometimes be a bit long.
There is an unfenced irrigation reservoir adjacent to the site. This is deep and the water is very cold, so swimming is strictly prohibited. Children must be supervised at all times; however, you are welcome to walk in the surrounding fields and try your hand at game fishing around the reservoir.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.- The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.
- Swimming in the lake is not allowed.
- Electricity is metered on site at £0.32 per kWh and must be paid at check-out.

There is a width restriction of 2.3 metres on the Chetwynd Bridge from the Alrewas exit of the A38. Access is easier from the M42 or Tamworth.
