Pitches

  • Small and simple off-grid site at a Staffordshire farm
  • Stoke-on-Trent 20 minutes' drive; 25 minutes to Alton Towers
  • Free-range hens and ducks on site; views over the site's orchard
If you like to open up your tent in the morning and see views of trees and farm animals rather than lots of other tents, take a look at Orchard View Campsite. This small Staffordshire site only has a handful of pitches, so your neighbours are likely to be the resident free-range chickens and ducks rather than a large number of other guests. The other thing you’ll be able to see is the small orchard next to the camping area – still in its infancy but a lovely backdrop nonetheless. In keeping with these chilled-out surroundings, the off-grid site is a simple setup with some outdoor log seating, a cold water supply and an indoor toilet as the only facilities. Keeping guest numbers low means there should always be space to relax in – and the low-key facilities mean low light pollution, and therefore often some quiet special night sky views. The location of this site should be a winner too – it's a thoroughly rural spot with lots of walks around and urban facilities not too far away in either Uttoxeter or Stoke-on-Trent (both 15-20 minutes' drive away). The closest pubs are a couple of miles away, and there are plenty of ways to fill your days – including days at the races, thrill rides at Alton Towers, pottery museums and gin tours among other things.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (pet friendly)

Liked A wonderful campsite, very well thought out. We loved seeing the chickens, ducks & cows. James is such a lovely owner, he showed us around personally & has so many plans to develop the site. He also delivered us some eggs for breakfast that were laid on site. He really went above and beyond. The fire pit and seating area for each pitch was a lovely addition.
We will 100% be coming back. Our little chihuahua loved it too; the dog friendly area of the field was fantastic.

Disliked We struggled to find any shade on the field, which made things tricky on a hot day.
Also, we have a very small dog, who slipped through the wire fence into the neighbouring cow field, luckily we got her back easily. Completely our fault, just something to keep in mind if you have a little dog.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your kind review and be lovely see you all back again in the near future. 😊

Non-electric grass tent pitch (pet friendly)

Liked Absolutely loved our nights stay at Orchard View. This relatively new site is an absolute hidden gem for those wanting an off-grid, semi wild-camping experience to get back to nature and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet! The owner couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful taking time to show us around personally. A nights stay is well priced. Each pitch is spacious and well laid out with its own seating and fire pit area a short distance from your tent. Setting up with the tent entrance facing the field makes the most of a great view and adds the charm of the occasional visit from the cows. Chickens wander about the site free range and for a small sum you can buy corn to feed them. The site is very sheltered and I didn’t even bother using the guy ropes on my tent. We had a very peaceful nights sleep under canvas and although we did wake when the cockerel started crowing at about 4am, I soon went back to sleep. All part of the charm and a one-off experience for my city-dwelling son! We will certainly be returning soon and can’t wait to see how the site develops.

Disliked Not much negative to say really. The site is in an early stage of development with many trees and bushes yet to be fully established. I think when the owners long term plans start (quite literally) bearing fruit this is really going to be a very special place.

From the manager: Thank you so much for such a wonderful review Alex. So happy you both enjoyed the stay so much and I will be looking forward to seeing you both in the near future.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (no pets)

Liked We absolutely loved our stay in Middleton Green. James was a wonderful host, there if we needed but very happy to leave us to enjoy getting back to nature. It was great to hear about his plans for the place, that working in unison with nature was at the heart of. It is a car free camp site which meant us and the kids could relax and enjoy the space without fear. We loved being close to the animals, although the roosters do love and early start. Thanks so much. Nathan, Hannah, Henry and Max.

From the manager: Aaawww thank you so much for the lovely review and so glad you all enjoyed your stay. Hopefully be seeing you all again in the near future. Thanks James. 😊

Liked Really wonderful experience.
Probably the best holiday I've ever had.
Getting away from it all is such a tonic.
James and his mum are so welcoming.
Lovely atmosphere and so relaxing.
There are cows, chickens, ducks....all sorts.
I intend to go once a month for a few days, just to reboot.
I can't rate my experience highly enough 🙂

Liked We had a fantastic stay at this campsite. It's perfect for young families. The views were absolutely beautiful, and the peaceful setting made it a lovely place to relax. The roaming chickens were a real highlight for the kids.

The host was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, which made the whole experience even better. The facilities were well-maintained, including a toilet on-site which is really helpful when you have young children in tow.

Overall, a great campsite that we’d happily return to. Highly recommended!
