  • Dog-friendly farm-style site on the edge of the Peak District
  • A 20-minute drive from Buxton and 25 minutes from Alton Towers
  • Walking distance from watersports and pubs; walking trails nearby
Pining to get away to the pretty Peak District? From Camping at The Hollies, a farm-style site on the edge of the national park, you’ll be able to put your best foot forward and get to walking or biking through valleys, woods and caverns… or mix it up with a meander in some of the park's characterful towns such as Buxton, 20 minutes’ drive away, and Bakewell, half an hour's drive away. The backdrop here is The Roaches – just one of the good spots for hiking in the area. There are more walks accessible right from the site or a short car ride away. While you’re exploring, you may want to pay a visit to Tittesworth Reservoir, just 15 minutes’ walk away down the road and a proper watersports haven. The reservoir also has a kids' playground. Pubs are also on hand to keep up the merry time, including a couple within walking distance. In Hartington, 20 minutes’ drive away, there are village shops, cafés and tea rooms for a coffee and a cake (or two, depending on how far you’ve walked). Leek (five minutes’ drive) or Rudyard (15 minutes) are other local spots with shops, restaurants and pubs. On site, a few sheep and chickens roam around. Plus, a resident pizza van called Pipers Pizzas sells delicious stonebaked pizzas (done in a woodfired oven and very much liked by many guests) every Friday and Saturday from 4pm and on bank holiday Sundays from 4pm. There are basic facilities – on-site toilets (proper ones, not portable-style) are provided, and there are four showers (bring coins for the meters if you want to use these). Firepits are available to hire, but they require a cash-only deposit, and you'll only be allowed to burn wood purchased on site. To make sure everyone gets a good night's sleep, quiet hours are set between 10pm and 7am.

What customers say

This is a spacious, relaxed campsite with stunning views of The Roaches. Visitors frequently praise the friendly owners, clean basic facilities, and convenient location for walks and local pubs. The on-site pizza van is a popular addition. While most found the experience positive, some noted potential for overcrowding and basic amenities, and a few negative experiences with owners were reported. Fire pits are available for hire.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked You can just pitch up and very close to some fantastic walks

Disliked Not many toilets and showers and no bins for your litter

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Geoffrey,

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear you had trouble locating the bins during your stay. Just to clarify, we do have three commercial bins located by the entrance/exit for guest use — we’ll look at adding clearer signage to avoid any confusion in future.

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and hope you still enjoyed your time with us.

Best regards,
The hollies

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked This was a lovely camp site, well maintained, relatively flat site. There is a cute van which is hidden in the trees that sells pizzas and breakfast bits which looks even more lovely at night with cute festival lights in-between the trees with some picnic benches. Sausage butty was v nice!! Had an enjoyable weekend even though site was busy it wasn't noisy at night with everyone respecting others. Will definitely be back!!

Disliked Would be good if there was hot water at washing up stations.

Liked Great views, clean site.

Disliked Could do with a couple of extra toilets. Site was really busy, which was great, but the wait for the toilet in the morning was a challenge for my old bladder!

From the manager: Hi lianne, thanks so much for taking the time to leave us a review. We're glad you enjoyed the great view and found the site clean. We agree we need a couple more toilets they will go in over winter now the pizza van has been moved.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked This site was absolutely fantastic, it was very well kept. The facilities were very clean and set in their own area so were convenient and easy to use. The on site catering was brilliant, there was a little pizza place set in its own really nice area that had a great selection of pizzas/drinks/desserts etc and the prices were very reasonable which we taken full advantage of for our evening dining. Whilst we didn’t use it, they also served breakfast which looked great also. The site is in a great area which feels in the middle of the country side but just a few minutes up the road there’s a nice pub/restaurant and a few farm type shops.

Disliked Nothing! Everything they offered was fantastic

Local attractions

In such a scenic setting, you may well spend a lot of your time outdoors … there’s a valley trail and Thor’s Cave in Manifold Valley (20 minutes’ drive) and cavern tours and woodland walks around Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park (15 minutes). Skip over the stepping stones at Park Dovedale & the White Peak (half an hour) or do the loop around Dovedale (half an hour), another top beauty spot. Rudyard Lake (20 minutes) is heavy on adventure too, with an activity centre, steam railway, cycle paths and boat trips. If you’re particularly daring, Madrenaline Activities (10 minutes) runs outdoor activities such as segways, axe throwing and archery. Alton Towers (25 minutes) has many more adrenaline thrills. Family-friendly attractions are all around, including Peak Wildlife Park (15 minutes) and the ice cream farm at Blaze Farm & The Potty Sheep (20 minutes). If it’s a peaceful place you’re after, Bakewell (half an hour) and Matlock (45 minutes) both fit the bill. The former has Bakewell puddings and a medieval bridge and the latter is a historic spa town. Biddulph Grange Garden (20 minutes), a National Trust landscaped Victorian garden, is just as peaceful.
