  • Simple, well-kept Staffordshire campsite on a quiet smallholding
  • Five minutes' drive from Leek; just off the A53
  • On the southern edge of the Peak District, with views of The Roaches
Set in scenic Staffordshire on the southern edge of the Peak District National Park, Beech Villa Camping is a secluded smallholding that's home to horses, a few sheep and a handful of camping pitches. The Roaches, a prominent ridge of hills that can be seen in the distance, provide a stunning backdrop and can be easily accessed on foot. There are also local walking trails to the nearby Tittesworth Water (where a range of watersports are available), Lud's Church chasm and lots of other nature spots. (And if nature's not the thing for your kids, how about a day out at Alton Towers, 25 minutes' drive away?) This site has simple facilities, including a washing-up area for pots and pans and toilets. Although conveniently close to the A53, the site is set back from the road so it still feels peaceful. Barbecues are allowed as long as they're kept off the ground to protect the grass (fires or firepits are not permitted due to the livestock). Two dogs per pitch are welcome (but please keep them on leads at all times). The local area is home to a number of excellent pubs, including the waterside Lazy Trout in Meerbrook (a mile and a half away, close to the reservoir) and Ye Olde Rock Inn (a mile away up the A53), which has been faithfully serving locals and visitors since 1816. If you don't fancy travelling that far, it's handy to know there's also a much closer pub about two minutes' walk from the site, serving up drinks and dinners.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Really friendly welcome at Beech villa! We were met by Sharron and did bring some carrots for the horses as discussed by email the previous day as it was the end of the season. The camp is only a small one. The views were spectacular and it's a nice field to pitch on. Unfortunately it rained a lot while we were there for our night but we did have a great time!

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Very friendly site owners, & a great introduction to the site, it’s facilities together with local shops & pubs. Basic facilities, exceptionally clean, water and chemical disposal point available Slightly sloping site, peaceful with outstanding views. Lovely to have the horses & sheep adjacent to site. Weather not good on our visit, but will certainly be back again

Disliked: Nothing to affect our stay.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: On our arrival we were met by the owner who made us feel very welcome and she also shown us where the loos, water & bins were. Very clean toilets and site was well managed. Horses and sheep on site so dogs must be kept on a lead. We had a lovely walk around the nearby reservoir 20 minutes walk away and had a bite to eat there before we returned. There are also a few pubs nearby. Overall a good location to get out and explore this beautiful area.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely relaxed site, basically a large square field on a gentle slope, very secure, behind 2 gates. Portaloos with hand-wash basins were spotless, as was the dish wash facilities. Owners are very friendly and approachable. Great to share the grounds with their horses and sheep (in separate fields and stables!) and to wake up to fabulous views of the roaches! Good mobile data signal in the area. Pub serving good beer and food a few minutes walk away.

Disliked: Nothing.
